Daily Jaguar
#1
My wife upgraded to a Volvo and I ended up with her Mazda 3 as a daily.  It was "fine", but a little boring.  It's biggest problem was my son's car seat barely fit, effectively making it an impractical 2 seater.  If I'm going have have capital wrapped up in something impractical, it's going to be something fun.  So Mazda 3 was out.

I came across something very randomly and car ADD strikes hard.  If I need something bigger to tote the wife and little guy around, might as well go all in.  I picked this up Friday:

2004 Jaguar XJ8

One owner from Williamsburg, bought new at the Richmond Jaguar dealership and serviced there yearly.  It shared the garage for a couple Morgans and was bought so his wife could drive it to club events while he took a Morgan.

25k original miles when I picked it up.  I paid less than 1/10 of original purchase price.  It's so amazing to drive.  Smooth, quiet, powerful.

Projects?  Needs nothing but some paint correction.  I plan to just drive and enjoy it.

It has an added bonus of now I can take my TR6 more to club events and my wife can bring the little guy in the Jaguar.

One of the cars I grew up in. Absolutely loved to drive these. Great pick up, I keep looking at them but they make no sense when I needed a truck.

Love this car the more I drive it.  It's the first car I've driven that I do not want to change a thing.  It doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't.  It's just amazing.

Fuckin' yes. I can't wait to see how this treats you... they have a very reliable V8 (really), the transmission is a Mercedes unit (really) and people claim they are not all bad to own and maintain. I would rock the exact one you got, or an XJR, super hard.

I don't know why people are so scared of them, but the depreciation is comical.  Ford 4.2L V8 with the upgraded timing chain guides (metal instead of plastic), upgraded cylinder liners, and the ZF 6 speed transmission is smooth as butter.

If I went looking on purpose, I would of been looking for the XJR, but this one fell in my lap.  Now that I have some seat time, I don't regret it at all, I don't think it really needs more power (or anything to complicate matters lol).  I'm looking for road trips to take just to drive it

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
