Texted about the camry.

Friend of mine is/was rocking one of those Camrys that he paid $300 for. 200k miles and the suspension was absolutely ruined, but everything else worked perfectly (power seats, windows, radio, door locks etc) and somehow the destroyed suspension only made it better. It didn't wobble and wander and clunk down the street like a derelict BMW, it just gracefully floated along like a Rolls from the 50s. Just one of those old shitbucket cars you fall in love with the first time you sit in it, blows my mind how much car you can find for next to no money sometimes.

What's awesome about that is that there building on the right is a separate tire shop. That little white shack on the left looks like the used car lot's office.

I feel like in part it's because you know it's a $300 shit bucket. You know it's not going to strand you and after that you really don't care if there's a rattle or a squeak or there's no oil in the car. You just drive it. It's almost relaxing, something breaks and as long as the car moves, you just roll with it. I used to auto x the 240 and the tires were practically corded and the trunk was composed of an 1/16th of an inch of rusty paper but it was fun as hell. Cheap cars are the best other than the fact they suck lol.

TBH I'd be concerned about a suzuki, since there's, you know, no such thing as suzuki cars anymore.

If it makes you feel better, the car is really a Daewoo, and they are still around in some corners of the world.
Edit - In the reliable sub-$2000 car world, individual examples are a lot more important than brand generalizations. Maintenance history, seller sketchiness and inspecting the car itself are most important to determining whether or not it will be reliable. It's a lot harder to find a "reliable" make that also isn't a basket case - in my opinion you are better off going American or 3rd world. I put 5x the time repairing my 93 Camry (new water pump, sealing the head gasket, new plug wires, crazy oil leaks) than I ever did the 93 Saturn....

Oddly, that brings me no comfort.

Just to make this easier, what makes do you find acceptable? This is Japanese, running, 4 door, automatic, in Harrisonburg, with under 100k miles. https://harrisonburg.craigslist.org/cto/5436334648.html
