Pikes Peak Anyone?

Anyone else follow Pikes Peak this year? I always love seeing the insane creations that come out for this event. Peugeot driver Loeb smashed the record climbing the mountain in 8 minutes and 13.87 seconds. Nearly 2 seconds faster than what computer simulations predicted. I watched the whole run by Loeb and I nearly pooped my pants on a few parts. And I'm not even in the drivers seat! That dude was seriously burling out on some of those straightaways...massive cojones.

Since when is Pikes Peak paved all the way? Also, easy for me to say sitting here in my office, but it seems like he has to shift waaay too much. Give him a car with a higher redline and bigger power range and he'd knock a good chunk more off of that time.

Since last year.

Its still a great event, but it has lost a lot of its character and appeal IMO since its all paved now. The best part was seeing all the hillclimb specials that had to be fast on pavement and dirt.

Loeb's time is pretty amazing considering it was a production/silhouette car. Its eye-opening how much speed there is in factory dollars combined with one of the best drivers in the world.

The door is open though for any other manufacturer to bring an open wheel or lemans car out and really thrash the record.

I was just out in CO... When I got there I realized I missed it by 2 days after seeing a couple trailers pass by with cars
