The rear end of my E30 still needs to be welded on. The car's located in Fredericksburg. Would anyone want to lend a hand sometime over break? I can obviously pay for gas/food/time as you see fit.

If you end up doing it, let me know when, and I might come down to give a hand/be tool and beer passer.

lol my welder will do it but thats not a short process. if you have the rear cut and the new piece trimmed and fit it will still be a solid 6 hours (or more) of work. you cant go too quickly or you'll warp the fuck out of the metal.

I figured it would be. I don't mind trimming etc, but I'm just worried I'm going to fuck something up in the process or accidentilly overcut it or what not if you know what I mean.

do you have another rear end already cut off a car? do you have the donor car?

Garrett, I'm not sure you have a good sense of exactly how much work this is. (Hint: It's a shitload.)

THIS IS NOT AN EASY FIX:
so there is two ways to go about doing it. if he has the donor car with the tail still attached it will take "less" time. if he doesnt and just had a tail section its going to take longer and there is a lot more measuring to go into it. mind you, i've never done it, but i have watched it be done in person half a dozen and seen it on tv a million times.
you will need a sawzall with very fine toothed blades (long and short blades and plenty of them) and and a cut off wheel with THIN cut off wheels. you should primarily use the cut off wheel but some spots (especially in the trunk) you might need to reach with the sawsall. and make sure you are cutting the donor and the repair car the same way. you have less than 1/8 inch to play with in error and most of that is taken with the width of the blade. taking your time is key and measuring 10 times before you cut as steady as possible is also advised. depending on the how you do it, this will take 8-10 hours just to cut and make sure it will fit.
both the car and the patch will have to be prepped for welding, without taking off too much metal. you'll want to use the scrap tail to cut and practice on to get the welder settings just right. between the heat on the metal and the duty cycle of the welder it will be a solid 8-10 hours of fitting and welding (IF you did a good job the previous day of cutting and fitting). make sure there are welding blankets all over and stuffed around fuel lines... take out your ecu so you dont short it out, etc.
then you have to grind down, fill, and seal the back end before reassembling.

Alright well on that note, this would be too much trouble to get done (or at least too much trouble for me). So on that note, I'll just dump it off hopefully over break! Thanks for offering help everyone.
