maint will be depending on wear you go. properl cleaning after most rides, treat it like a dirt bike if you plan to use it correctly.

im not sure how awesome they would be here, all depends if oyu have a group that would ride w/ you through the cut of shennendoah or something, or getting to that awesome fishing spot.

my neighbor uses his BMW w/ his dual sport friends

specifically, i'm looking at something old, with little to no power, and less than $1500.

there is a '90 honda nx125 in "great shape" that i'm waiting on pics on cl... for $995 how could i go wrong assuming it runs? is 7hp far too little to have any fun on? plan is to basically use it as a scooter around town and maybe a handful of times per year, hit a trail.

I think Chapin has a DR350, you should ask him about it.

But why not just put knobbies and a dirtbike bar on the VFR?

because it's still not fixed... and not nimble AT ALL.

Re: A dual sport sounds fun. - .RJ - 09-01-2009

A 125 air cooled 4-stroke is going to be miserable.

Get a 250/350.

Re: A dual sport sounds fun. - Sijray21 - 09-01-2009

i first learned on a yamaha xt225 - they should be pretty cheap and the one i rode on for the MSF was a lot of fun. apparently i didn't even know when i was popping wheelies - it was also air cooled if i remember correctly

that's about all i have for a contribution for this thread :-P

Looks like a blast, but I have no idea how much bikes go for.

Re: A dual sport sounds fun. - JohnC - 09-03-2009

So, I do own a '99 DR350SE. It's at my father-in-law's place at the moment, because I wasn't riding it at all.

$1200 and it's yours. Email me if you're interested.
