Turbo Questions - Jeff - 10-02-2005 Hey guys, Got a few questions about my turbo install.. 1. Should I use new OEM coolant/oil lines or buy the $110 SS lines? 2. Where is the best place to mount the EGT gauge probe? Drill one of the exhaust runners? Which one? Put in the swing valve? The downpipe? 3. Should I replace the Headgasket and do the rod/main bearings while the engine is out, even though it dosn't look like it needs it? (compression 1-150, 2-135, 3-155, 4-151 service limit = 100psi) 4. Use the starion/conquest IC or buy a new one? I am short on funds, bare it mind. Any help would be much appreciated. - .RJ - 10-02-2005 Put the EGT probe closest to the exhaust port on the hottest cylinder. On a honda this is #3, I dont know about your do-mes-tuc pile ![]() If the OEM coolant lines are not a point of failure, dont fix what aint brokes. Head gasket on a turbo car is a good idea..... Use the starion IC, IMO. - CaptainHenreh - 10-02-2005 .RJ Wrote:On a honda this is #3, I dont know about your do-mes-tuc pile On most cars it's number three because it's in between two other cylinders AND it's the furthest of the two that are like that from the water pump. - JustinG - 10-02-2005 I was a wuss and didnt wanna drill into my Mani so i mounted it on my downpipe like 2 inches away from the exhaust outlet on the turbo - KPWSerpiente - 10-02-2005 Drill the mani like everyone says. Hottest cylinder...whichever that may be. Do the headgasket...duh. And get a more efficient intercooler if you can. -T - Jeff - 10-03-2005 Hey guys I put the EGT in line with the hottest cylinder but back from it in the exhaust flow. I talked it over with one of the oldest mechanics and he said he thought that that being near the hottest cylinder would be a good indicator of overall temp however it might also be good to get a little more average temp so I should put it out from 3, but still in line with it. Sorta a compromise...
- Jeff - 10-03-2005 Thoughts on the EGT placement??? Did I do ok or F it up? Also, there is some talk on turbododge.com in my thread about this car that thinks that my turbo is screwed. Anyone have any words of wisdom? I might be taking wagers on this soon. |
