Toyota Corolla - lyltoy - 02-25-2005 I wanna throw this out there to see what you guys think of the mid to late 80's AE86's...I've been looking on the intranet and seeing what they go for and I'm thinking of trying to find one this summer to make it my AutoX whore, and possibly do some HPDE's. Let me know what you guys think, good or bad. I know they make great DRIFT cars and i do love to go slidewayz  - .RJ - 02-25-2005 Well what do you want out of the car? There's lots of good, cheap cars to start out with ![]() RJ - who thinks an FB RX7 would make a nice drift car... if you can tame the snap ovasteer.... ![]() - Dave - 02-25-2005 i don't know much about the 86, talk to Blair- he loves his other options, all RWD, all fairly cheap mkII supra FC rx7 Nissan 200sx Nissan 240sx mustang lots of other stuff, just thats off the top of my head consider them all, look into parts availability, mod availability, ease of repairs, etc when deciding - ScottyB - 02-25-2005 i like 86's alot....that being said, i can't see them being cheap like they should be anymore. like RJ said, their prices are out of control unless you're buying one from somebody who doesn't realize what a cult following the car has. some things i've noticed about these cars....they are pretty much destined to be slow, unless you do some engine swapping or boosting. they rust out, and i believe they use a solid rear axle, which i'm personally not a fan of, although it is effective. also, seeing as how these cars are somewhere around the age of granite/petrified wood, there are alot of general parts on the car that will most likely need to be tended too. - G.Irish - 02-25-2005 I'd recommend an N/A FC or a 240. The FC might be a little bit easier to sneak in on the cheap since the 240's are getting supa popular. - Andy - 02-25-2005 a ghetto 240 can be had for a grand, give or take. the AE86's are carbed right? that would be an issue with me, especially jap carbs, they're half the size and twice as complicated. - CaptainHenreh - 02-25-2005 AE86's are 1.6L fuel injected. SR-5's are single cam, GT-S is twin cam. IMHO, unless you find someone who doesn't know what they have, you'll either pay to much or get a piece of shit. They're cool enough, I guess. Slow, with a solid rear, and alot of them are rustbuckets. I say if you really want a small rear drive car, get a 240, an FC, or a mid-eighties muscle car. Camero, Rustang, etc. - Feersty - 02-26-2005 Camaro? - CaptainHenreh - 02-27-2005 Feersty Wrote:Camaro? Chevy F-Body. Bite me, Rob. - BLAIR - 03-02-2005 The corolla is an awesome choice.. stick with it and just look for a cheep one.. cheep i mean blue book like 700 - 1000 because someone doesnt know what they have and all the HYPE about them. mine was 900 from a guy who had no clue. since i have had mine i have found 2 more for under a grand. they do tend to rust bad so watch out, you can get parts for next to nothing and they seem to be everywhere. RWD kicks ass. not to fast but deff. not slow you gotta remember they only have 115 hp but they weigh nothing. its not fast at all but its fun expecially with the low ass gears mine is very solid... no rust.. 196k.. start everyday and no problems with tons of miles put on by me... i beat the hell out of it... slide it whatever... TOYOTA RULES THE WORLD.. the best part is thats it was only 900 bucks (bone stock) so they deals are still out there another option is a nissan 240.. they are cheep and very similar in performance. but a corolla is just sooo much cooler.. ![]() ![]() - BLAIR - 03-03-2005 by the way if you are looking for one you want a 85-87 GTS only those are the only RWD performance ones... stay away from sr5's just drive around looking for the big ass GTS TWIN CAM 16 down the side.. when you see one follow them and ask them to sell it.. chances are they wont know what it is and money talks.... thats how i find em.. and i have seen at least 3 in harrisonburg that i havent been able to catch up to - lyltoy - 03-03-2005 sweet, thanks blair...I will def be looking for one this summer, i love the way yours looks and i can only imagine how fun they are to drive, especially sidewayz ![]() P.S. Toyota DOES Rule  - BLAIR - 03-03-2005 ill probably be bring it back down here real soon. ill be happy to give you a ride or let you drive it or whatever. the rwd is awesome, this is my first rwd car and i have only done a few drift events but im atticted for sure. like i said keep and eye out and dont be scared to follow someone home and offer them money.. thats what i did .... it works... ive seen a nice silver coupe in harrisonburg 2 times now but both times i coudnt catch up to him... find him before i do.. cause ill just get it for a grand or so and sell it for 3 grand.. the hype is kinda gay but making money is cool - Feersty - 03-03-2005 What do you think about this one: Price $3,250 Body Style Hatchback Mileage 138,080 Exterior Color Red Interior Color Black Engine 4 Cylinder Gasoline Transmission Manual Drive Type 2 wheel drive - front Fuel Type Gasoline Doors Two Door ![]() - .RJ - 03-03-2005 Hmm... its pink. Paint "mr electro" on the side and I bet evan would be interested ![]() - ScottyB - 03-03-2005 Feersty Wrote:What do you think about this one: way too expensive, and they didn't even figure out its rwd. those cars should be like 1000 bucks tops. you can find alot of way better beaters for 3 grand. just ask Dave  - Feersty - 03-03-2005 These AE86s are so intriguing to me. Blair has gotten me thinking definitely. - Dave - 03-03-2005 Yelloa3GTI Wrote:this is my first rwd caryou'll never go back BTW, busted 240 > busted AE86 unless you're putting the 1G-GTE in there  8) ![]() hmmmm, Justin, you DO need to get an 86 so that I can convince you to do this swap, since Blair has too much sand in his trap  - Mike - 03-03-2005 3250 for a corolla with nearly 140k miles? lol - Sijray21 - 03-03-2005 ScottyB Wrote:Feersty Wrote:What do you think about this one: lol, seriously, 3 grand is WAY too much for that piece... the only reason you'd get one is if it was rwd, the fact that it's fwd makes it completely undesirable IMO....and it's pink |
