Isn't this what got VW their reputation in the first place? Not sure where you got the notion that I thought my car was or would be reliable. Before three months ago? Sure, I hadn't had any major issues so it was possible I would have said "things are going well!" Now? Pffft. It hasn't left me stranded so that's cool, but from the initial purchase I've said "no way I'm owning this past the warranty." Re: White One! - xvxax - 04-17-2013 Honestly last night I was drinking a beer and browsing and the hate just flowed through me for some reason. My bad, I look like a real jerk junking up your thread. GTIs are very pretty and white is my favorite color. There I said something nice, now I will excuse myself. Sorry again. Re: White One! - Mike - 04-17-2013 Dick! I hate you. (I'm drinking now) Re: White One! - premiershine9 - 04-17-2013 Sully Wrote:From what I can tell, VW only cares about how loud the thunk is when you close the door. At least that what their commercials stress. Mine has held up pretty well, minus the waterpump going at 16k.... and the fact that sometimes it doesn't start and lights up like an f-ing fire truck :dunno: Re: White One! - SlimKlim - 04-19-2013 I have less than 1k miles left under warranty. Gulp. As far as I know the only major issue my car had was the Mechatronics unit recall, and that has an extended warranty until 2019. i can handle water pumps and that kind of thing, I just hope nothing catastrophic happens or something in the smack dab middle of the car goes out. ...Like the steering rack.. What's happening with the no-start issue? Mine was acting weird where it would start and die immediately. I did some googling and people were saying the software needs a second to recognize the key or something weird like that. I started giving it 2-3 seconds after sticking the key in before I turned it over and it hasn't happened once since. :dunno: Apparently the ignition coils also attempt to escape the engine because no one thought to bolt them down, so if you get a random misfire just open the hood and push down on all the coils and try again. That happened to me once, I gave them a few taps with a rubber mallet and it hasn't happened since. Quirky sumbitches that's for sure. I guess that's the cost of having a twin-clutch turbocharged econo-hatch. Re: White One! - GregF - 04-19-2013 VW does a pretty good job of warrantying the DSG. They know its not perfect and Ive never heard of anyone get turned away for a DSG claim (with a stock DSG). The waterpump can be a bitch if you dont catch it though. Mine decided to empty its entire contents in my garage and I didnt notice it until I came back from some errands. The problem I have with VW is that with these parts that fail a lot, they first replace them with one revision, and then come up with other revisions later on, because the first replacement still wasn't up to par. They've done this with the waterpumps, diverter valves and a few others. Your issue sounds similar to mine. It seems like 1 of 2 things for me: 1. The last time it happened, my wheel was turned at full lock and the road was uneven. So one theory is that antitheft/alarm sensed the wheel position and engaged, disabling the car. It starts but stalls out just after turning over. The EPC (?), Traction, and a few other lights and notifications come up, but the alarm doesn't go off, which is why Im not certain this is the issue. 2. Its a Volkswagen. Its happend probably 4 or 5 times now but its inconsistent and isn't really a problem. Remove the key and try it again and it starts up without a problem. Coils in the 2.0T are so problematic. I swear they are the cause of 50% of the problems people have with these cars. Luckily they havent caused any problems for me, but I might upgrade to the R8 coils anyways. I suppose we can ask Evo owners if they have the same problems... Re: White One! - SlimKlim - 04-19-2013 Used GTIs are $14k, Used Evos are $30k, how do they compare? Why do you even give a shit, considering you have no skin in the game? Let us VW people VW in peace. Embrace the hate, proceed through the fire and flames of my derision, and come out forged anew! Good god, they are getting butthurt over that. Glad they didn't own a DSM. I STILL get shit about it. Re: White One! - Evan - 04-19-2013 GregF Wrote:Mine has held up pretty well, minus the waterpump going at 16k.... and the fact that sometimes it doesn't start and lights up like an f-ing fire truck :dunno:facetious? I even had my car back the same day. The starting issue, thats something that actually worries me because its electrical and could be an ECU problem, or at the very least, VW could easily blame it on the tune.GregF Wrote:Mine has held up pretty well, minus the waterpump going at 16k.... and the fact that sometimes it doesn't start and lights up like an f-ing fire truck :dunno:facetious? (I hope?) The battery also took a crap in the first 15k and to me thats more bothersome than the waterpump. It shows where they really did cheap out. Re: White One! - SlimKlim - 04-22-2013 I would've seriously considered a Ralliart as a DD but all the ones I found were $3-4k more than I wanted to spend and those base package seats leave much to be desired. Honestly if I was going to do it all again, after realizing the full cost of the GTI + maintenance, I probably would've bought an MS6. There are plenty of them out there for ~13k, they're quick stock and damn quick with an AP, and the fake AWD would be nice because i'd get FWD mileage 99.9% of the time, but twice a year when it snows I could do knarly snow drifts and they seem to be pretty bulletproof reliable, I'd just have to row my own gears. I'm still very happy with my car as an overall package. Its not the fastest, or most reliable or the best bang for your buck, but when you combine practicality, features, performance, ride quality, gas mileage, etc, its hard to beat, at least for me, which is all that matters. I found the old Top Gear episode from like 2005 where Clarkson reviews the MKV, he calls it "all things to all men" Re: White One! - Mike - 04-14-2014 Car has run like a top for the past year. I love the damned thing, but we just got that A4 as our single car so this one must go. Unlike the MINI, I would not hesitate to sell this to MM. Would be great fun to come out here and drive it back! Weather is turning beautiful. I was shocked to find what cars with 80k miles are selling for (17-18k). This car turned out to be a great buy. http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/4422486757.html Re: White One! - SlimKlim - 04-14-2014 Ugh I kinda want it. I covet thy neighbor's MKVI solely for the improvements in interior quality. It just doesn't make sense to spend $4-8k more for essentially the same car. GLWS, did you throw it on VWvortex and whatnot? Re: White One! - .RJ - 04-14-2014 Put a bird on it. Re: White One! - Mike - 04-14-2014 Would make no sense for you to buy it. No, didn't put on Vortex. Would rather not deal with them, but if it doesn't get much interest, I will. VW dealership was pumped up about a potential trade-in. My config is apparently pretty sought after (moonroof without the stupid nav/tech package).
