Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - Mike - 09-14-2011

seems like very little depreciation for a 5y/o car, but i know nothing about that market... is that reasonable?

Dunno. Subaru guys enlighten us.

I punched in the basic info on KBB.com and it came up with a retail price of $28,3XX. That's a couple grand more than BW's asking price, but it still seems steep given the car's age (even though it does have low mileage).

Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - JPolen01 - 09-14-2011

The 2005-2006 Sti's seem to hold their value fairly well. With low miles like that one, the price doesn't surprise me at all. They go for around that on NASIOC all the time.

Edit: Here is another 2006 with 19k miles for the same price <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2231548">http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2231548</a><!-- m -->

yeah..."best" STi years of that generation (05-06), impossible to find stock, really hard to find with low miles, or the combination of the 2.

subarus for whatever reason just hold their values well regardless.

Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - DavidL - 09-14-2011

Thats a little high, but nothing over typical dealer markup. For some reason, the difference between a 20k STi and a 50k STi in those years in like 4-5k??

But yes, that is not outrageous

What qualifies the '05 & '06 MY cars as being the best?

'04s had weaker hubs - they went from 5x100 to 5x114.3 in all of the 05 and newer cars.
'07s had piston issues - ringland failures, etc due to a overly lean tune from the factory

26k is quite a lot. And just because it's stock at the dealership doesn't mean it was stock beforehand. I could put mine back to stock in 2 hours and sell the bolt on goodies for a 2-3k without a problem. So that's usually the route people go if they trade in because you can recoup a much from money invested in mods

Thanks for the pointers Adam, I didn't know about the issues plaguing the '04s and '07s. And as for de-modding a car to increase it's value and recoup money that has been spent on mods....that's common practice in the used Terminator/GT500 market.

If I ever pull the trigger on some flat four goodness I'll probably buy from a private party. Just too many unknowns about the cars history when buying from a dealer.

Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - ScottyB - 09-15-2011

07's also come with a less aggressive front end (less caster in the geometry)

i would definitely buy privately unless its a smoking deal and has lots of paperwork....there's enough of them out there to choose from. plus subaru's can be quirky, so its good to buy from someone that's familiar with those quirks.

that would be a pretty cool garage...turbo flat four rally car and super'd V8 street animal.

Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - flintster55 - 09-16-2011

Yea private party is certainly the way to go. But, it really limits how picky you can be unless you're willing to be very patient. When I was looking for one, I had been searching for over 3 months but I pretty much had my mind set on a blue 06.

If you're actually thinking about pulling the trigger on one, I wouldn't be worried about the 04 hubs. They usually aren't an issue unless you make huge power or plan on tracking it. So that at least opens up some additional possibilities when hunting for one.

Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - WRXtranceformed - 09-16-2011

My old (Travis's current) '04 STi never had any hub issues, if anything i always worried about the axles breaking...

If anyone wants a minty-fresh NA Miata, there's a '91 with 51k miles for sale in Columbus, Ohio. All VINs, no rust, only mod being a Racing Beat axle-back exhaust. Owner is asking $7k but open to offers. Hardtop included.

I'd rather have the dark gray RX7 that's in his garage.
