Its not like you dont get to meet the people you're going to be living with first, and it will be much cheaper than renting a 1BR apartment. Your options are going to be limited enough as it is by needing a garage space.

We aren't close to a metro, but there's a bus stop right in front of our house across the street. G takes it all the time, but I know I couldn't do it.
If you NEED a garage spot, it's not guaranteed. The goddamn Integra takes up half of it, and busted shit is currently taking up the other half.
Which makes the whole thing full of busted shit, really. :lol:

1Br in Arlington is expensive. I paid base rent of 1230 in Ballston + an additional 100 a month for an extra parking space in the garage.
I'm in Centreville now and we pay 1150 though I can have all the shitpiles I want in the parking lot.
Renting a room is the best option in this area.

Remember that if you move in with friends you COULD absolutely hate them by the time you move out... and it would really suck to lose a good friend over something that could be avoided like that.

Mixing friends and money/living habits can have disasterous consequences. My sister no longer speaks to a long time friend because she rented a room to her friend and shit snowballed.

Happened personally as a friend of mine is an absolute drunken slob and another one is a totally driven neat freak and another is a fat sloth + me destroying the car port working on cars = TENSION

honestly friends/roomates really depends on the demeanor of your friends. if you KNOW they're irresponsible, why would you want to live with them? on the other hand, if you know their habits and such then it'll likely work out.
another vote for looking for opening on craigslist. i know a few people that have found really nice living situations through CL, you'll just have to sift through all the BS ones - which could be a pain in the ass, but worthwhile.
