Orange spark.... low battery... headlights cutting in and out....

I’m calling electrical or a bad ground somewhere.

#1 - charge your battery
#2 - make sure when you were screwing around with your fuel lines you didn’t knock a ground off the firewall to the intake / engine block.

I bet if you found a good piece of wire and grounded your engine block to the battery it would start right up.

Charging battery now.

My method removing the old fuel lines was pushing with a screwdriver under the car while Zach yanked on them from the top. I agree with your idea we broke a ground. I searched and search and found nothing, but I'll keep looking next time I'm out there.

As for now, I've got a float charger on it.

Charged the battery up and still no start. Cranked until I got a 1223 code. I'll try replacing that sensor, but that's the code I've had intermittently before my no start issues in the past.

Did you do something really stupid like reverse the fuel return with the inlet?

DirtE30 - 1990 BMW 325i - Senor_Taylor - 02-13-2018

I've double and triple checked that this is not the case. Unless the fuel pressure regulator is on the return side? Tell me that's not the case. I haven't been able to find the appropriate diagrams. I have the line from the filter going to the regulator, then the lower line directly from the rail goes back to the tank.

Oh man... The more I think about it, the more I think that could be wrong.

Edit: fuck

DirtE30 - 1990 BMW 325i - ViPER1313 - 02-13-2018

Yea.... FPR is normally on the return side Wink

Well yay, now it's running!

Sell it.

I don't think it's honestly that crazy of a mistake considering the surprising lack of diagrams, and some fuel systems have regulators on the feed line.

Buyer coming from New York to trailer the E30 back for damn near asking price. Just like that, a clean slate.

Are e30s that hard to find he has to drive from NY?

RE: DirtE30 - 1990 BMW 325i - Senor_Taylor - 02-18-2018

A rust free Delphin Grey E30 is. This car isn't as shitty as you'd think. I'm just brutally honest when I describe what's wrong. This guy has a rusted out Delphin Sedan he'll swap some parts on to and have a solid car.

So what next?

C5, si, CTS, or E36?

Porsche Boxster S.

My mind is made up on a reasonable, well taken care of E46 330i. I know it's a car most of y'all would have as a college beater, but it's what I want and it will do what I need.
