So what you mean to say is you had to have a measured response to show that you disapproved too?
I'm not sure why sisters are any different than girlfriends but yay for splitting hairs! So that I may have it for future reference, please inform me as to what's in bounds and what's out.

I'm seriously asking why g/f are any different than sisters. If you don't want me to talk about, I respect that, but please explain what makes one okay and another not... and how was I supposed to know ahead of time? I suspect if anyone's sister found some of the stuff we say about them they might be pretty offended too. What makes it okay?

Why can't you just say "it wasn't clear that I was going to offend anyone. I'm sorry, I didn't realize" instead of inciting a debate of semantics? It's genuinely obnoxious to launch into what took place above and really makes me want to avoid anybody that does it.
I shouldn't have insulted you when I said she and I were offended, I think that set things off inappropriately.
Some things need to be handled with kids gloves that one might not expect. There's nothing incredibly wrong with that.

the "yourmom" stuff has historical (ie 8th grade) precedent of being goofy and non-personal jokes. Sister is personal and NOT in the same context of yourmom jokes, just like GF.
