Re: Job searching again - HAULN-SS - 10-08-2010 Interesting turn of events. Chief Scientist of old program contacted me yesterday. Found out I am working on an internal project at the new company (not on a contract yet, that is), and now my new company and old one are in talks to see about me going on to a Subcontract doing the same job I was doing, which I liked, but now I'll be doing it for the pay and benefits of the new company. Re: Job searching again - caa337 - 10-08-2010 Nice, So are you a computer scientist? Re: Job searching again - Sijray21 - 10-08-2010 HAULN-SS Wrote:Interesting turn of events. Re: Job searching again - caa337 - 10-08-2010 That's what im majoring in, how hard was it to get a job? Re: Job searching again - HAULN-SS - 10-08-2010 It took me about 3 - 4 weeks when I started looking in college. I got interviews pretty easily, and was in the 2nd round with about 3 companies when I accepted with Lockheed. I double majored in math too and I would recommend that as opposed to just being a straight Computer Science major. If not math, then physics, engineering, or some other hard science. It will definitely pay off in the long run. Re: Job searching again - caa337 - 10-08-2010 I'm doing CS masters with a minor in telecommunications, sounds pretty good to me with the information security certificate. Re: Job searching again - WRXtranceformed - 11-23-2010 So now that things are ironed out, I guess I can announce...I got a new job!! This is a pretty big deal for me, I've been mulling over and praying about my current job for a long time. I posted in another thread about what I didn't like about it, so I'm not going to really go into that much again. Long story short, one of my girlfriend's clients works for Career Builder. She mentioned to him a while back that I had been casually job searching and he told her they were hiring and to pass on my resume to them. I spoke with him and he passed my resume on to the regional manager. Set up a few interviews and was offered the job during the second one. It was an incredible opportunity and although I took a slight hit on my base salary from what I was looking for I was ok with it. Well I get a call a few days later and the manager who made the offer told me that HR couldn't approve my base salary + car allowance + cell phone allowance because it was more than what most reps in the nation were making. She came back with a much lower base and no car allowance. I told her that financially it wouldn't work for me so I explained why I could jump right in and do the job I would have been promoted to within about a year. She had confidence I could do it so I got the official offer letter for the higher position on Friday!! I will be handling some of Career Builder's larger accounts (Fortune 500 - 100 companies) in an account management / sales role. I will be flying all over the nation which I am REALLY excited about. This job will give me a really solid base salary, $400/mo car allowance, $150/mo cell allowance and the bonus for meeting my quota is more than what I made all of 2010 as a 1099. My biggest challenge will be a really high quota coming right into the company, but I am confident in my abilities. Oh, did I mention that I will have cheap benefits again?!? 401k again. So excited for that. And they start from day 1 which is awesome. It was tough telling my two best friends that I was leaving their company, but it was something that was a long time in coming. It's tough to go into business with your friends. But they are happy for me and it was a good "breakup". I sold really strong for them before I left and I have a bunch of front and back end commissions they are still going to pay me on. I have to go clothes shopping now...need a new suit, some new dress shirts and slacks and stuff. My dress code has been business casual for the past 2 years...that doesn't go over well in boardrooms haha ![]() Anyway I'm super excited, I feel like this is going to be my first "big boy" job and it will allow me to spend more time with my girlfriend and start giving more (especially to my church) which has been on my heart lately. Re: Job searching again - JustinG - 11-23-2010 Congrats Lee glad it worked out. I'm hoping my search comes out as successful as yours did! Re: Job searching again - WRXtranceformed - 11-24-2010 Thanks man good luck to you too! That is a sick opportunity..if you can nab it then go for it! Re: Job searching again - ScottyB - 11-24-2010 that's some pretty awesome news Lee. keep us updated Re: Job searching again - Steve85 - 11-24-2010 Congrats Lee! I bet it wasn't easy to tell your best friends, nice to see that they are truly good friends and not taking it personally. Enjoy your travels, there isn't always a lot of free time on business trips, but my friends who travelled a lot appreciate what they could muster and like having had that experience. Re: Job searching again - WRXtranceformed - 11-24-2010 Thanks Steve. I figure now is the best time to do it since I'm not tied down by a wife or kids! Re: Job searching again - WRXtranceformed - 12-02-2010 So. I got my book of business today and one of my clients is Jiffy Lube. I've also got one of the largest glass manufacturers in the world. They are based out of Japan...small chance I may travel there?! |
