If you had shoveled your driveway you could've gotten out

- Apoc - 01-24-2007

RJ pretty much nailed it... although I'm sure you'll say that you did and still couldn't get out. That's what salt/sand is for.

Lazy would have been all the people who didn't do shit, unlike me who was out there clearing the driveway (and the sidewalk for my entire side of the street) and salting it so it wouldn't ice up overnight. So I used powered removal, bfd.

- Mike - 01-24-2007

i had no need to shovel the driveway or further pollute our waterways with salt/sand.

- .RJ - 01-24-2007

if you had no need to shovel the driveway, why were you complaining about not being able to get out?

- Mike - 01-24-2007

i wasn't complaining, just stating a fact. sorry if i came across differently than i intended.

LOL... me clearing it with a machine when I could have just rolled over it is lazy but you not doing anything because you decided to stay home isn't? Wow...

- Mike - 01-24-2007

i didn't decide to stay home, i had no reason to leave.

- Sijray21 - 01-24-2007

i still think purchasing a snow blower (checked prices around $300 and more) for the DC metro area is a little overkill. just break out the shovel - you can't have that much to go over and driveways are relatively easy (as long as they're paved...).

why do you think we attempt to contain all the particulates when breaking ground for new construction (that is what those silly black barriers are for)? so it doesn't get in our waterways! because it wasn't meant to be there! because objects foreign to the environment kill the things that live there. yes, i'm saying dirt particles are on par with sand.

actually that is there to combat erosion. Not to keep dirt out of the river...

like your vagina?

- Kaan - 01-24-2007

we should all go out in front of our homes and sweep up the remaining sand and salt.

- BLINGMW - 01-24-2007

haha... yeah Mike, I think erosion and posible chemicals from construction are the main reasons. Out of all the things you could pour in a river to "polute it", I think bag 'o white, clean sand is like the lowest thing on the list.

correct, erosion causes dirt and other shit to enter the waterways.

It serves both purposes actually. When I was out in the field, the VA and Federal DEQ were just as strict about erosion / sediment control guidelines as OSHA was about jobsite safety. A builder / developer can face some HEFTY fines if they're not in compliance with engineer-approved erosion control plans.

I actually went through a DEQ inspection and it was not fun. Fortunately we had most of our ducks in a row, although the inspector was extremely picky about even small tears in the bottom of silt fence and such. Which is pretty hard to catch when you have thousands and thousands of feet of it all over your community =P

yea but they are doing it at construction sites to keep the foundation from washing away until they can build the proper reataining wall/plant trees, not to keep dirt out of the river.
