Re: Taylor's Miata FS Thread - *insertusernamehere* - 04-24-2015 Yeah I didn't really wanna harass you with the question but this entire time i've been asking myself, "i wonder how bad the burnout will be when he gives too much gas tryna get off the clutch" I'm sure you'll be fine, I'd offer to go with you but I got stuff to do tomorrow. Good luck! Oh! Remember to check for milkshake before and after test drive. Both oil cap and dipstick. And give it a good romping, actually... I don't know if i should advise that.... hrrmmm, take it slow, and take your time shifting    Just give a solid timely (as much as you can swing) test drive. I swear shit NEVER shows up in under 10 mins of driving. Re: Taylor's Miata FS Thread - davej - 04-24-2015 low mileage 1.8 swap posted a half hour ago, in case your other one falls thru http://harrisonburg.craigslist.org/cto/4993769809.html Re: Taylor's Miata FS Thread - Jake - 04-24-2015 You can't see the timing belt unless you take the valve cover off. The 1.6 and 1.8 both have three belts - timing, alternator/WP, and AC. Okay. I guess I'll shoot him an e-mail. Need him to come down a looonnggg way. How should I feel about a car with that swap done? Seems like a can of worms I'd rather stay away from if something goes wrong. Re: Taylor's Miata FS Thread - SlimKlim - 04-24-2015 I've gotten the impression Miata motors are not nearly as bombproof as some people believe them to be. Jake's motor gave him the giant middle finger before like 130k. He mentions the FM conversion kit being used which is a good sign it was done properly. I would be wary of buying a cheap 5.0L swapped one or something, but one with just a replacement motor isn't a big deal IMO. EDIT: I get a more warm and fuzzy feeling from this one than the one with the whacked fender that just ate a water pump. Chances are this lady means the serpentine+ac belt when she means "all belts" were replaced. The other one has a much better list of recent services, and has a brand new set of tires so you won't have to worry about those. The $1700 one could easily eat up the difference just in tires, brakes and a timing belt service or something, I bet you could get that $2950 down a bit. Re: Taylor's Miata FS Thread - *insertusernamehere* - 04-24-2015 And this one is right here inside Pheasant. I walk past it everyday. Trust me, you can talk em down. It ain't a perfect car http://harrisonburg.craigslist.org/cto/4988589742.html Re: Taylor's Miata FS Thread - Senor_Taylor - 04-24-2015 Matt, that guy won't budge. Already talked to him. Re: Taylor's Miata FS Thread - davej - 04-24-2015 SlimKlim Wrote:I've gotten the impression Miata motors are not nearly as bombproof as some people believe them to be. Re: Taylor's Miata FS Thread - Senor_Taylor - 04-24-2015 Well. Good news. Her mechanic suggested she replace the timing belt while doing the water pump... so when i go to look at it, the timing belt will be brand new along with the water pump. No change in price. I might not try to haggle as much now, especially if she gets the A/C fixed before I go look on Sunday. Re: Taylor's Miata FS Thread - Senor_Taylor - 04-24-2015 Well. Good news. Re: Taylor's Miata FS Thread - Senor_Taylor - 04-25-2015 I'm very jealous of how little drama seems to have been involved when you got yours. Me looking for a Miata has been a 2 year long crap-show spanning 3 threads on this forum. I've been freaking out the whole time. I really hope I don't get there and it's a pile of rust, or the frame isn't bent or something. Re: Taylor's Miata FS Thread - Sully - 04-25-2015 I don't recall Jake's purchase story but i'm sort of betting he wasn't looking at the bottom of the market trying to spend under $2k. I think its been said before, maybe in this thread, if you try to buy a car you can't really afford (at the time), you're going to have a bad time. Re: Taylor's Miata FS Thread - Senor_Taylor - 04-26-2015 Yeah. I'll be okay. I promise. I just don't want to spend a lot on a beater/autocross car when I don't need to. That being said, I was supposed to go down and look today. Texted her yesterday to see if the car was ready. No response. Text her today, no response. E-mail? Same. So I call her... and she doesn't pick up. Fuck. Re: Taylor's Miata FS Thread - Senor_Taylor - 04-26-2015 Got an e-mail back from this guy. http://baltimore.craigslist.org/cto/4987168188.html "158K miles, I do not have a service history as I did the oil changes myself, No major problems just some dings and rust spots" I'm not sure how I feel about this. Doesn't seem too bad. Re: Taylor's Miata FS Thread - ispoonwithmugen - 04-26-2015 That's definitely one to steer clear of. Re: Taylor's Miata FS Thread - Senor_Taylor - 04-26-2015 Yeah. It doesn't seem that great. Hopefully this lady will contact and tell me one way or another so I can know what direction to head right now. Have a thread on Miata.Net now http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.ph ... ost7456616 Re: Taylor's Miata FS Thread - Gordonovski - 04-26-2015 I don't have any CL ads you probably haven't already seen, but I'll be damned if this isn't the biggest group effort to find someone a car I've ever seen. Re: Taylor's Miata FS Thread - Senor_Taylor - 04-26-2015 I'm very grateful for everyone's help so far. It's been awesome! |
