As far I know, most only lock in your final gear, or if you have the gear selector in a certain gear, but I may be mistaken.

anyone know what he is accomplishing by seemingly tapping the gas through the corner? note: i've never tracked RWD or anything that couldn't be floored out of every corner so maybe that's the answer - testing grip?

No, just looks like he's using the throttle to help rotate the car, probably compensate for a tendancy to understeer.

Right, but most don't during normal driving, right? That would be silly because the only gear you drive in for a sustained time is final drive. As the guy in the video is doing.
