Re: Project: 1976 911S - Apoc - 05-02-2013

The stock wheel is fairly worn on the high side; likely due to sun damage. I'm seriously considering replacing it with a MOMO Prototipo. Most of the MOMOs are pretty obnoxious for street cars, but the Prototipo seems pretty tame and suited for vintage cars.

Thoughts on quick release as a theft deterrent? I live in a fairly crime free area, but car thefts are not uncommon. It's currently parked in a carport about 40 feet from the streets, but it's definitely visible if someone is walking by.

QR Hub + hidden kill switch is probably a pretty smart idea. I'd do it.

I got a ride in the car last weekend. It smells like oil & old german car interior and sounds like there's a flat-6 orgy going on behind your ears. I really, really need one of these.

i wouldn't bother with the QR and kill switch stuff. there can't be too great a market for hot lime-green 1972 911 parts, can there? car sticks out like a sore thumb... but maybe i'm giving thieves too much credit in the brain department?

I think piece of mind for me, would be to have the kill switch. The quick disconnect would just be a convenience factor for getting in and out of the car easier. I love my NRG QR, just push it open, spin and clicks into place. No "lining it up".

It wouldn't take much to chop it and sell it for parts.

I would do the QR as a daily deterrent. Then wire in a keyed kill switch for when you are out of town for a couple of days.

Wire the kill to the ground on your Fuel pump, assuming its electric? the ground to the distributor?

This is a concern of mine. I'm going to be out of town for 10 days in the near future and people have been known to go door to door acting like they're selling something to see if people are home. I'm going to block the 911 in with my Subaru this time around, but I won't always have that option.

I think a keyed kill switch might be overdoing it, but maybe not.

Wont hurt anything.

Re: Project: 1976 911S - Apoc - 05-06-2013

Except when I lose the key.

Re: Project: 1976 911S - Mike - 05-06-2013

MAKE COPIES, BRO!

Dont make it keyed? Hide it under the dash, engine bay, wire it to a button that doesnt do anything, etc.

Re: Project: 1976 911S - JustinG - 05-06-2013

or if your in a pinch and loose the key, ya just twist the wires back together.

Project: 1976 911S - JPolen01 - 05-06-2013

Or be responsible and don't lose the key to something that important?

I've never lost a wallet, phone or keys... but as I get older, I've started to forget where I put a lot of less important things.

Re: Project: 1976 911S - JustinG - 05-06-2013

Just do a hidden toggle then. If they are smart enough to find it, then I doubt a kill switch was gonna stop them anyway.

Re: Project: 1976 911S - Apoc - 05-06-2013

There's a fog light button that doesn't do anything. Hmmmm.

Re: Project: 1976 911S - SlimKlim - 05-07-2013

I've always thought it would be cool to make a kill switch with an RFID kit. You could hide the reader in the dash near the ignition and maybe interrupt the starter in the fuse box or something so it wouldn't be immediately obvious what the contraption was, and power the reader off of the ignition so it doesn't draw down the battery.

You could put the ID tag on your keys, and then the starter would only get power if the tag was there.

I think this is a good representation of what it'll look like.

This a good idea. Wire this inline with the starter relay. donezo.
