Re: Project 1997 ITR #280 - ViPER1313 - 07-29-2011 Just wondering - why did you buy a Type-R that essentially needs a full Type-R conversion (motor / interior / front end / suspension / wheels) to get back to stock like you want it? Why not just start with one that was original or buy a regular Integra chassis and convert it to Type-R status :dunno: Re: Project 1997 ITR #280 - Mike - 07-29-2011 ViPER1313 Wrote:Just wondering - why did you buy a Type-R that essentially needs a full Type-R conversion (motor / interior / front end / suspension / wheels) to get back to stock like you want it? As for converting a regular Integra, see what Mike said. Re: Project 1997 ITR #280 - CaptainHenreh - 07-29-2011 What's the BFD with a 1997? Re: Project 1997 ITR #280 - JustinG - 07-29-2011 they changed the bumper a bit after 97, but you can barely tell, or atleast I can barely tell. was also the first year. May be some other stuff??? Re: Project 1997 ITR #280 - navin - 07-29-2011 That's basically it - i dunno, honda fanboi-ism. hrug:
Re: Project 1997 ITR #280 - Evan - 08-03-2011 wait, why are you changing the engine? isnt b18c5 the 'right' hype-arrrr engine? Re: Project 1997 ITR #280 - navin - 08-03-2011 I'm not replacing the engine, just pulling it out to make body work easier for the body shop. Re: Project 1997 ITR #280 - navin - 08-07-2011 Progress - 08.07.11 Motor is finally out, eff shift linkage pins. Previous owner 'mushroomed' the pin which made removal interesting. Thankfully a friend came over to help, with one of us holding the pin punch at an angle to force the pin out easier. Picture is after some wiring harness removal/abs brain/fuse box ![]() Wiring is gonna SUCK, big time. Previous owners def. ghetto rigged the head light harness. ![]() It's a good thing I wanted to go back to the US front end, got to check out the previous "work" done on the car/jdm conversion. The pictures should speak for themselves. ![]() Hmm, this looks a little sketchy. That doesn't look like factory welds. ![]() Hey, ITR's don't have that hole behind the ABS unit. Thanks Joe (Doespike) for the confirmation. Me = cursing previous owners right now. ![]() OH, but it gets better - how you say? Pulling the drive side motor mount, noticed the "post-mount" shift. :o Check it out after we pull it out of the car and notice only 1 of the 3 bolts for the post mount was used . Also only 2 out of 3 bolts were found on the transmission t-mount. ANNNNND, awesome damage on the post mount bolt holes. ![]() . . . . . Well nothing to do but keep on moving. Next plans of action for the car: 1. Order OEM wheel housing + core support. Maybe look into some more bodyshops. I think user Smitdog has a buddy that can take care of the work. 2. Sell the rest of the crap that came with the car. One last picture to end this update: ![]() ZIPLOCK FTW! Re: Project 1997 ITR #280 - ScottyB - 08-07-2011 yikes....so i'm kinda confused, are you saying this isn't an R chassis, or the car was hit in the front and replaced with non R framework? either way, at least you have the opportunity to get the car exactly as you like it now. Re: Project 1997 ITR #280 - navin - 08-07-2011 It's the "R" chasis, just was in a front end collision. Either the 'tards at the body shop cut out the 4 inch circle by the ABS, or they used a non Type-R replacement panel. The welding/body work looks like shit anyway, so I'd rather get it replaced. Also when you the JDM front conversion you trim of pieces of the sheet metal to fit the JDM core support. So basically by ordering new wheel housings, I'll be able to get the stronger USDM core support. Re: Project 1997 ITR #280 - navin - 08-22-2011 Nice Weather & Boredom Update - 08.22.11 Decided to take advantage of the nice weather and clean up the grimey engine bay. Simple green + dish scrubbers + pressure washer = decent results IMO. 1. ![]() 2. ![]() Now some parts that have been laying around, figured I might as well get pictures of them to document the 'build'.. HardRace Front and Rear Endlinks for Swaybars ![]() Hardrace Front and Rear Swaybar Bushings ![]() HardRace Front LCA Bushings (Hardened Rubber) ![]() HardRace Compliance Bushings ![]() Seems like people have mixed reviews on HardRace stuff, but I've never had any problems. I run the endlinks + rear TA bushings on the hatch with no problems or signs of pre-mature wear. Also didn't want to buy a bushing "set" and end up with a bunch of bushings I'd never use. Anyways, still waiting on my core support + wheel housings to show up from Acura. Been trying to source some body panels (hood, fenders, headlights) and then pick up a new bumper from Acura so the bodyshop can line up all the panels when the core support is installed. ETA of that... I have no clue. Re: Project 1997 ITR #280 - navin - 10-12-2011 I HAZ updates - nothing monumental, but it's something to bring this back from the dead and show that I haven't quit.. First and foremost.. New Core Support. ![]() New Fender "Wells" - Might just end up using the passenger side if there is no difference in length to core support. ![]() Sourced some used, but damn good condition CW fenders. Shipping from Canada sucked, but much better than buying 2 OEM ones ($300 a pop + paint).. ![]() And now for my favorite - BNIB OEM 97 ITR Front Lip. When I spoke with the lady from Del-Ray Acura she said this was the last one in the warehouse. Don't really know what that means, hopefully it doesn't mean they wont get anymore. ![]() . . So that basically leaves me with sourcing a hood (i wish I could find someone that wanted to get a CF one, and sell their CW one), and purchasing a bumper from Del-Ray. I do have some headlights I picked up used, just not pictured. Need a good buffing to remove the haze, but needed to get these parts so I can get the bodyshop to test the fitment of the panels when the new core support goes on. Cheers  Re: Project 1997 ITR #280 - WRXtranceformed - 10-13-2011 Nice...I bought a lot of stuff from Delray, great prices and they have literally everything you would ever need. Re: Project 1997 ITR #280 - navin - 12-21-2011 Body shop soon.........HEY DJ, can i haz a lift
Re: Project 1997 ITR #280 - Mike - 12-21-2011 i hope you got this car for free because this is silly. Re: Project 1997 ITR #280 - navin - 12-21-2011 I wish... the body work bill is killing me. But oh well, that's what i get for rushing/getting a project car. Most of the stuff for the car was bought with money from parting out the previous parts, but I did take a hit for picking up new bumpers/etc. Oh well, it's just money. And the end product is something I'll be satisfied with. Re: Project 1997 ITR #280 - D_Eclipse9916 - 12-21-2011 navin Wrote: PS, I dont have a come along or winch, so you can either buy a come along or prepare to have like 5 buddies to roll that bitch on the trailer. Re: Project 1997 ITR #280 - navin - 12-21-2011 No motor, interior, etc. So it's pretty light - but good call. I'll have some people over to push that POS onto the trailer. Guess I should go grab a steering wheel for it as well
Re: Project 1997 ITR #280 - navin - 01-08-2012 ![]() See you 2 weeks! (supposedly) Thanks again DJ -- hopefully I'll have some fun stuff for this build now
