Composition. It's what most people lack and why they take shitty pictures. It's the first thing you'd learn about in a class and the biggest step anyone can take towards fooling people into thinking you know what you're doing. I harp on RJ all the time about it and even tried to give him pointers on the Dasha Bike shoot. He'll learn... eventually... maybe.

Exposure compensation isn't going to help you because it's just going to make your shutter open longer. I was looking into getting one but now all my money seems to be going toward track days... oops. :wink: As for the external flashes... I'm mostly an outdoors shooter so I've never seen a need to purchase one but if you shoot indoors its a necessity I would feel. I know there are "flash caps" type things to soften up the light when taking pictures. My uncle who does professional photography was showing them to me and what an amazing difference it can make. I'm interested in learning more about filters and what they can actually do to get correct shots in camera... most everything so far I've been able to fix with basic editing. RJ, for the Sigma 17-70... check out Sigma4less.com. They normally have a large stock and have quite reasonable prices. I just picked the first one on Goggle that seemed to make the point. Even if you're not using a speedlight (hotshoe flash) you should still be using the on-board for fill flash. Here's an example of mine where a fill flash was absolutely necessary. You can see how her hat would make a shadow had I not used one. In addition to avoiding shadows in unwanted places her eyes also appear to sparkle as a bonus side effect. ![]() Here's another one.... ![]() Uno mas to show it's not just with hats... :wink:
