i think RJ's llama has been up much longer than goodspeeds

- .RJ - 09-21-2007

the text in goodspeed's sig is an image.

I dont see a problem, since its just text. If the deal is no pictures in sigs, well whats the problem?

I think RJ's donkey and Goodspeed's Supra Text are fine. They don't take up any more space and don't take any longer to load the page.

it's fine, leave it

- Ginger - 09-21-2007

I think RJ and Goodspeed should be banned. They can start their own club - Haikus and Silly Machines.

- WRXtranceformed - 09-21-2007

Dude, RJ was way ahead of the haiku times last year.

I'm ok with it too. Does that mean I can add a small pic too? :lol:

average page here = 100k
donkey = 2k = 2%
supra = 5k = 5%

now if everybody thought it was ok to add a supra-style image to their sigs, pages would take twice as long to load. (20 posts [assuming different posters] x 5% = 100%)

- Apoc - 09-21-2007

Even more when you consider imageshack's time to first byte latency is generally longer than the norm.

Got a plane to catch?

- Evan - 09-21-2007

let the images stay. they serve as proof of the douchebag-ness of whoever put them there

- .RJ - 09-21-2007

Also - the page text will already be there while the images are loaded, so should be a non issue. Then the images will be cached...

I'm going to put a giant lunchbox picture in my sig.

- Apoc - 09-21-2007

You want to really maximize performance ban we-todd-did avatars.

Their DNS lookup time just plain sucks.

Wasting time on this proves that pointing out pages taking an extra 2 seconds to load is just whining.

2 seconds is millions of dollars to a lot of companies, especially when it's a 50% increase in load time.

This isn't a for profit site but it's one more check mark in your column of inconsiderate web practices. Tongue

Besides, if I wasn't doing this I'd just be doing the same thing for some poorly made AOL website.

When we get paid to read interweb forums.... then you got a point.
