Sometimes you can get a 'guest' pass, only good for 1 day, and yes, you will have to pay with cash, they won't take check from a non member.

I don't know how Sam's Club 1 day passes work, but when I tried to buy something from BJ's with a 1 day pass they wanted to charge me a 15% you're-not-really-a-member fee. Check on that before you drive out there.
