I didnt realize you actually played maeng. I really, really wanna play, but I couldn't ice skate if my life depended on it. I was actually looking into whether they had a class for that at JMU but it appears there is no rink in harrisonburg Sad

jmu has a club roller hockey team that used to play on the tennis courts by hillside. i've got a huge scar on my knee from one of their games. i think they also have a club ice hockey team that travels to charlottesville to play cuz its the closest rink to hburg. things might've changed since i was last there so i dont know if there's a team anymore

i miss roller hockey so bad. had to stop when i moved to roanoke because i would play on the street with friends....aint no flat roads round those parts.

I'm going to be playing on the engineering school hockey team this winter, however I've never even been on skates before. So...

A. Is this going to hurt?
B. How Bad will it hurt?
C. Can I leave my helmet on when I fight?
D. Can I play in golf spikes?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

in the nicest way possible - I'm going to suggest you rethink you decision. it's been about 15 years since i was in you shoes but learning to ice skate isn't something you kinda pick up in a day. you said you have never been a skates before - is that only ice skates - if you can roller blade well than youshould be ok. its just that the skating motion isn't exactly natural at first. as far as hurting with a set of pads falling on your own won't be bad at all. if someone "helps" you to the ice thats a whole other set of rules. (as a side note - if you are going to fall at any time - FALL FORWARD - hockey pants don't have the best protection for your tailbone) it's awesome you want to start playing hockey its one of the best sports out there a lot of my best memories are from hockey (not 4am practices before school, not the Mt. St. charles rink)

all this hockey talk really makes me want to bring down my pads and start playing again

Luckily I used to be pretty damn good on roller blades, but havent been on them since freshman year. For the most part I'm pretty good at picking things up quickly and I think it will be fun (or hilarious for the others involved). I kind of look at it like cold lacrosse, I was pretty good at that so I'm going for it.


Hopefully a funny video will pop up on youtube because of this.
