i have verizon and it is great, service everywhere, yea the phones do suck but they have gotten better, with the Razr, the V (my phone), the new skinny PDA, and now the chocolate. Phones are getting better and i have had no problems with the service.

- Maengelito - 09-03-2006

i know a lot of people with the razr and although it looks pretty slick, plenty of people have had problems when they drop it. my friend dave seems to get the worst luck of all of them when dropping his phone, but i've known many that crap out. mine is an LG and i've dropped it several times. worst thing that happens is that i have to take the battery off and then back on then its fine. as far as what scotty says about LG's, yeah you gotta buy all that interfacing crap for your comp, but i dont take very many pictures. if i do, its only a couple of cents to email them to yourself. i dont find its a big deal to do that.

that's actually a really good phone. it's more professional. i would've gotten it if i would actually utilize most of its features. It's about $300 give or take $50 after the rebates and such.

i really like Verizon. I've been with them for about 2 years now. I'm pretty happy with my phone as well (samsung a930). It has all the features i would want (bluetooth, mp3 playback, sleek appealing design (IMO), and a nice camera) and best of all it was only $50 after the rebate.

Verizon FTW.

I've had prior experience with Sprint and At&t. At the time sprint had very spotty service and i couldn't even get reception in my home in alexandria. The customer service was alright with sprint and i had a very shitty experience with At&t. Maybe that has changed with the merge with Cingular, but i don't decide to find out. I get excellent coverage nation-wide with Verizon except for my house now (but no one really gets service here so i don't feel like its Verizon's fault). I don't plan to switch to another provider personally.

And for the record, i think the Razor is a cool looking phone, but i don't like it. The battery life is short relative to other phones in its price range and i've heard complaints about its internal antenna not being "up-to-par" with other phones in its price range.

I give my parents $20 a month for my phone as I am still on a family plan. Free nights/weekends, .txt for 10 cents. So that is a pretty sweet deal. I have Verizon with an Audiovox phone and it has worked fine and probably has a very good screen for a flip phone. As soon as the plan is over I would like to upgrade to some sort of PDA thing, but that is 2 years from now.

Chris did your phone get signal when you were in oakton the other day? Neither Sprint or Verizon get service out here in the boonies. Not terribly suprising.
btw, other than that, I dont have any complaints with sprint

- Apoc - 09-03-2006

Can't say I looked at my phone while I was there but if I can get reception on my dad's farm in rural southern MD I can't imagine I wouldn't get it there. It just seems weird that anywhere in northern VA, especially anywhere in Fairfax County, has a dead zone.

Whats the point? I'm sorry, I just dont get it... I want a phone that doesnt suck. I want good reception, voicemail that isnt delayed for 6 hours, and battery that wont die after 4 hours of sitting on my desk at work. I can get a blackberry from work if I wanted one, but I dont, because I'd just never use it. I just dont feel the need to be connected to t3h InTarw3b wherever I am.

Yes I'm gonna chime in with "buy a phone that doesn't suck". I've had sprint for over 10 years now and have had almost no problems. Sure I seem to always pick a residence that doesn't have any reception for Sprint, but it goes the same for most other providers as well. I buy expensive phones because if you're going to rely on something all the time you mind as well get something that's top of the line. You wouldn't buy a POS car that's completely unreliable for your daily driver would you (oh wait it's you, probably would). My last phone was >$300 before the discounts, my next phone will be approximately the same. If I was to go with any other service it would be Cingular or possibly Verizon because they always seem to have service where I don't, but I have no desire to switch providers with the discounts and such I get with Sprint.

I stopped reading after that. There's no excuse not getting reception in Centreville.

My dad has Sprint and his phone battery lasts 1 day because it's always searching for a signal. I charge my phone once a week, depending on usage. Granted I only use about 250 minutes a month but a phone shouldn't be drained 'cause it's always looking for a signal.

lg phones blow... i've always been with cingular and have 0 complaints.

- Apoc - 09-04-2006

-1 against sony ericsson phones

I will never own another one after my last phone... and I'm not a "phone abuser" like alotta people.

All I can say is Jess and I have had Verizon for the past 4 years, moved it back to here when we moved, have always used the free-with-plan phones, and haven't really had any problems. They even replaced mine for me slightly out of warranty when I jumped in Evan's pool years ago. We had the Motorola phones for 3 years, they offered us new ones when we moved, (and granfathered us in on the old and cheaper plan we had been on) now Jess has the cheapo LG flip phone and I have a tiny Nokia.

As far as "buy a phone that doesn't suck" goes... sure, paying for one gets you features, but not necessarily a more reliable or "better" phone. It might get you a better camera, or better mobile porn device, but I just want a phone. We'd get about 3-4 days between charges on the Motos, Jess gets about 5 on her LG now, and I go about a week! I've already dropped mine out of my shirt pocket onto pavement 5+ times, no problem. The only complaint I have about mine is the sound compression/noise is a little high, but reception and everything else is great, and I'm willing to compromise since it's so small. Works better than most even at Summit. I can't imagine "buying" a phone. Screw that.

- LorenaBeana - 09-04-2006

I had AT&T which turned into Cingular, and I had no reception here in NC or at my house in VA, so I got Sprint (lured into it by a boy...what was I thinking) and now my service has gotten worse over the past months, however my roommate has Verizon, and I'm planning on getting out of my sprint contract and switching over so I can actually get calls! What a novel idea.

I've had three lg phones in a row and I've been extremely happy with them.

Damn, I have only had my first and only cellphone for 2 years.

Dragon Wrote:My last phone was >$300 before the discounts, my next phone will be approximately the same.

I dont need the gadgets that go along with a $300 phone though. I dont rely on it that much, and i'm rarely on call for work, so its hardly critical. I'm just done putting up with Sprint's crap.

I had a phone for work when i was working for PEC - the thing was awesome. It was cheap, simple, got reception everywhere, and it would "sleep" whenever you didnt use it to save battery life. I should have either kept it or bought one for myself, but i'm a moron.
