Went with the package from CVR after talking him down a little in price. I debated and debated and thought I'd give these rotors a try. If they really suck that bad, I won't have lost too much from it and will bite the bullet for more expensive OEM replacements. From what I've read though they should be great for spirited and daily driving, which is the use they'll mostly see.
I was too hesitant to buy the cheap AAP rotors, Mike. It was tempting, but with the brakes being arguably the most important safety feature on your car, I didn't want to cheap out TOO much ^_^

I have never paid more than $23 for a rotor. Rotors for the current car = $13 ea at vatozoo.

no matter where you buy your rotors from, i'm sure that 95% of them will all be from some cast iron plant in china. unless you're dropping ultimate bling $$ for ceramics, in which case, it'd probably be from some ceramic sintering plant in china.

That sounds about right to me but at the same time, didn't Chapin's Autozone rotor separate on track at VIR last year. Maybe for light or low hp cars, cheapies are cool but a heavy/high hp car requires a higher quality rotor. Though for just street driving, I don't know if any car will be using its brakes hard enough to reach a rotor's fracture point.

his rotor did fracture at the thinnest point, that seemes like much more of a design flaw inherent with the VR4 rotors he switched to than a fault with those particular set of rotors.

And, for the record, those were *extremely* cheap rotors. $45/each I think, including shipping.

I use brembos, I looked at those advanced auto and they were much thinner than my brembos. They also looked more cheaply made, and brakes is one thing I wouldnt cheap out on.....

slotted rotors suck (btw thats a $200 DBA rotor after only 3 days on track)

Rotors are made to OE size specifications. Aftermarket rotors aren't going to be either thinner or thicker as that affects not only braking but fitment. From what I've gather from the interweb, most racers prefer blanks due to cost and reliablity while most ricers prefer slotted/drilled for aesthetics and percieved performance increase.
It seems logical that drilled/slotted rotors would perform better interms of braking but the decreased reliabilty outweighs the performance gains that slotted/drilled rotors may nor may not provide.

I haven't heard too many good things about DBA rotors that are tracked... they seem to wear prematurely. My slotted Stoptech 2-piecers lasted me through my entire 2005 season, and the big crack that developed wasn't near one of the slots. While the initial cost of the Stoptechs is high, reusing the hat drops the cost for future rotors.
Everyone has been gawking at the price of rotors, but the ones on the STi (almost identical to mine) are pretty hefty and expensive due to their size (328mmx30mm I believe). A more affordable option for our application is Cobalt's replacement rotors or RacingBrakes rotors ($99/rotor).

I beleive the advanced auto ones were thinner. Also, (it was a long ass time ago) I remember being slightly put off by advanced auto brakes when I looked at them. Something seemed cheap, I dont remember sorry. But main thing is, I dont cheap out on brakes, putting ANY doubt in my mind that my life was in danger for 50 bucks was not my priority. I got a huge ass deal on my brakes cuz I knew someone who owned a shop before they opened it....
PS- I am a little ricer so I went with drilled for the looks. I knew it wasnt going to be much difference braking. Call me a ricer all you want (not saying you did) but I like em, so meh!
