MM 15 Year Anniversary Celebration - ViPER1313 - 07-31-2015 I really think this should at or around JMU, not a track/autox event. Edit - as much fun as track events are, they are not particularly social situations with everyone running around, working, driving. Re: MM 15 Year Anniversary Celebration - rherold9 - 07-31-2015 So, if we do it at JMU the possibilities are: Car show? + shenanigans (cookouts, stories, renting out conference room, etc...) Sunday auto-x or karting? None of that and we do just shenanigans Re: MM 15 Year Anniversary Celebration - G.Irish - 07-31-2015 So the behind-the-wheel options: -MM only open Autox at Verona -Piggyback on NASA weekend -Rallycross/dirtbikes at Chan's -Karting -Rent small track (probably cost prohibitive) The only ones might be too tough are renting a track and offroad hooning at Chan's. The former because it is probably too expensive and the latter because someone might end up on their roof in the woods and we don't own a backhoe. Track Rental With renting a track something VIR-Patriot or Summit-JC would be the cheapest possible, and both of those are probably about $15-20k a day, especially on the weekend. Maybe what we could do is have our own track sessions within someone else's weekend. So there'd be an HPDE MM group where we all get to be on track at the same time, then we'd all have downtime at the same time. Major issue with this would be different skill levels on track at same time. Another thing we could do is just have a JMU area reunion weekend, and a designated track weekend for everyone to come to, grill out, party, etc. That way we don't have to try to be all things to all people (and so I'll have an excuse to rent a Radical). This past car show/auto-x weekend was probably the best time I had with MM. I am so down for doing that again, with post-show conference/cookout or restaurant party room rental or whatever mixed in for anniversary shenanigans. Here is the thing, it is also because everyone participating is actually on track. I am biased  . With a "15-year anniversary" I would venture out of the 20-30 people to show up, that 75% would not be going out on track vs typically weekend 90-100% go out on track. If we set up cornhole, had plenty of beer, and set up a projector or TV it would be the same as if we did it in a random field/parking lot/house. We would have to reserve off plenty of space and coordinate transportation/lodging beforehand (I have a trailer that can fit at least 3-4 queen air mattresses) etc. Personally, a "blowout turducken party/15th anniversary" would be fun. But I am not sure who is up for hosting something like that/finding a place in hburg that can accommodate us without being $$$. Re: MM 15 Year Anniversary Celebration - Senor_Taylor - 07-31-2015 I don't like the idea of the track sessions. Most of us don't have cars capable/ready to be tracked. Riding along isn't as fun as some portray it to be. I've been sober for 2.5 years though so I won't be the drunk narcissistic dick I used to be. Which is a good thing :p Re: MM 15 Year Anniversary Celebration - Jake - 07-31-2015 What if we expanded on the car show and rented out a party space for the whole evening? Would solve the parking problem (getting to a student's house for an after-party always involves some trickery) and in theory we could have a good space to have old videos playing on a projector, grill out back, keg(s), etc etc. Re: MM 15 Year Anniversary Celebration - Jewels - 07-31-2015 Jake Wrote:What if we expanded on the car show and rented out a party space for the whole evening? I like the idea of this the best. Then if people want to stay the night in a hotel they can call a cab. I know the Brother's brewery has a decent amountof space, and they will let you do a pot luck meal, or we could get some food trucks to show up. We just need to start planning this. MMassanutten? Re: MM 15 Year Anniversary Celebration - Jake - 07-31-2015 Massofnothing is kind of far from JMU, I think. I wonder if we could do a brewery or something like Julie said. Doesn't Greg from MAM have a stake in that new brewery downtown? Re: MM 15 Year Anniversary Celebration - Jewels - 07-31-2015 I think he's got something in Pale Fire. Its nice too! Re: MM 15 Year Anniversary Celebration - Senor_Taylor - 07-31-2015 If you do a brewery or some formal space, you can say goodbye to 75% of current students coming since we're under 21 Re: MM 15 Year Anniversary Celebration - Jewels - 07-31-2015 Senor_Taylor Wrote:If you do a brewery or some formal space, you can say goodbye to 75% of current students coming since we're under 21 You do not have to be 21 to be present at a Brewery. Its just like a Winery. You just can't drink. And we can work around that. Re: MM 15 Year Anniversary Celebration - PDenbigh - 07-31-2015 Fantastic idea guys. I vote VIR, just as G imaingied it, and perhaps either rent the Kart track or just get a ton of us over there to go Karting. Does Felton still do the high speed AutoX's on the inner circuit? That could be a solid alternative for those that don't want to be on the main track.
