Looking around on Aussie sites R34s are selling for like $15k-20k AUD which is only like $11-15k USD. Would it not lead one to assume that someone will start importing them from down under and increase market inventory? That there is a super high mileage GT-T, which you can find for around that same price in japan. The GT-R is a much different animal as MSRP was so much higher than previous GTRs (causing less people to buy, lots have been wrecked/scrapped too), plenty of GTTs and GTSTs to be had for cheap though Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - WRXtranceformed - 12-01-2016 DierwulfBL Wrote:That there is a super high mileage GT-T, which you can find for around that same price in japan. It looks like R34 GTRs in Aussieland (I haven't looked in NZ but I'm pretty sure they sold a lot of them there too) are like $49k-70k USD: http://www.carsales.com.au/car/nissan/s ... 34-series/ Depending on how difficult / expensive the process is to paperwork it here in the US, when these become legal it probably makes more sense to buy a plane ticket to Japan and buy one / ship it back. I read an article about Japanese car owners a while back and how they don't generally like to buy and drive old vehicles even if they are collectible, they aren't seen as cool. It supposedly keeps the used car market there pretty soft Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - DierwulfBL - 12-01-2016 WRXtranceformed Wrote:That makes more sense, I didn't put the GTR together and was just thinking about R34s generically (which I would definitely own even if it's not a GTR). Cost of legal importation under the 25yr laws is around 5k if you do everything yourself, around 7k paying someone to handle it all. Shipping alone is around 3500 on a car carrying boat to east coast ports from japan IIRC. I believe last time i looked in vancouver for R34 GTRs they were selling around 65k+ CAD for decently graded examples. GTR Garage in Washington state will also store a car for you in japan for free until its ready for import, theyll trailer it to a track in japan for testing as well while you wait if you use them for the importation process/paperwork/shipping/etc. One can always cross their fingers and hope though
Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - WRXtranceformed - 12-01-2016 DierwulfBL Wrote:Nice, Canada probably makes the most sense then assuming you can find examples that haven't been exposed much to the winter weather up there. $65k CAD is under $50k USD right now, plus you could potentially avoid shipping if you wanted to cross the border and drive it home or trailer it yourself after you took care of the paperwork.WRXtranceformed Wrote:That makes more sense, I didn't put the GTR together and was just thinking about R34s generically (which I would definitely own even if it's not a GTR). Grandparents are on the St. Lawrence, we can just ferry them back across. Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - JPolen01 - 12-29-2016 Ford GT Prototype #1 is for sale. I have a feeling this thing will bring some serious coin even if it is "limited to 5pmh". Although I am not sure how they limited it. Maybe it could be undone via new ECU/tuning? It's pretty cool even with the limit. I am sure a serious collector would not mind having a "display only" piece for their collection. Automobile Mag predicts it for well over a million dollars. http://www.automobilemag.com/news/world ... o-auction/ ![]()
Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - fiveoh2go - 12-29-2016 Very historically significant car. I'm sure it will bring big money for its pedigree and not its build quality. Goodspeed and I saw this thing in person at Carlisle a few years back...to say it is rough around the edges is being nice. Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - fiveoh2go - 01-04-2017 It hasn't been V8 swapped, its yellow..and yet for some reason I still want it. http://bringatrailer.com/2017/01/03/58k ... azda-rx-7/
