On another note has anyone seen the news on how GT4's shock towers are failing? They must be taking notes from BMW.

Yeah I actually just saw something about that the other week. Pretty disappointing that they wouldn't properly reinforce that area. People are even having problems even on street cars when they hit pot holes.
Oh well, not like I'll ever own one anyway.

Wow did you see that response from the guy in Austin who was supposed to take delivery on his GT3 when the tech hit a curb on the pre delivery test drive? Same thing happened, he didn't take the car and they couldn't get another allocation...haha

Nah the current C7 Z06 and ZR1 can already take the 488's lunch money. Ferrari isn't particularly worried about the Corvette because Ferrari buyers are not really cross-shopping the two. Lamborghini, Porsche, and McLaren are the ones siphoning off Ferrari customers. Even then, they don't really have any problem moving the mid-engined Ferraris.

i saw that with Samcrac's video on youtube. nuts. i can't imagine having an R8 and then having to get that area reinforced. They're aluminum bodies, right?

So you're a manufacturer who wants to reduce high speed accidents. And the highest speed limit in the US is 85mph (137kph), and 130kph (81) on the autobahn, though some sections are unrestricted. So you choose 112mph?! Oh ok, so now you're preventing ludicrous speed accidents, but I can safely assume the vast majority of "high speed" accidents occur at less than 85mph.
The only thing I can think of that matches this arbitrary 112 is that's the rated limit of an "S" rated tire. So if that's what they put on their cars, that kind of makes sense. But don't say it's to reduce high speed accidents.

I really fail to see the problem here. Every single media outlet was trying to make this the biggest headline yesterday. Must have been a slow day for news? All mass produced vehicles have an electronically limited speed limit. Volvo just decided to announce that they were lowering theirs for some reason. And to claim it in the name of safety? Whatever.

its definitely not for "safety". you can still F a lot of stuff up at 112mph and its faster than 99.9% of normal Volvo buyers will ever go, by a fair margin. and the Volvo buyers that want to go faster will just get an aftermarket tune that will disable the electronic limiter.
i'm with Chan, there's a mechanical reason especially with it being exactly 112 which is a completely out of nowhere number.
interestingly, the old S197 Mustang V6 was limited to exactly 112 as well, because if you went over that speed, the driveshaft would grenade.

still kinda begs the question. why 180? why not 160, which is nears as makes no difference to a clean 100mph. still faster than "safe"

I think Chan nailed it with S rated tires - isn't this the lowest speed rating for non-truck usage? If I had to guess, it's a cost-saving thing because they can now put S tires on all their vehicles.
