I actually prefer the RF for a daily, all weather street car.  Much better than what they did with the NC

Yes. x2

Hold up.

Wait.

You mean to tell us you ordered BOTH a RF & soft top!?

Pending response I'm shaking at increasing frequency in my chair.

And the RF is sweet.  Every color doesn't serve it well, 49-51% of the time I prefer the soft top look for the ND, but in black its amazing in person.

Technically I ordered the soft top, and my wife ordered the RF, per her request.

Realistically, I will see what the market is doing (launch editions were selling for almost double msrp for a little while) and make a decision about keeping both.

Nice!! Will make for some awesome photos if you manage to take delivery of both at the same time.

I haven't sat in an RF yet but I like the looks of it more than the ragtop, and it'd definitely be the better car for daily driving given the extra security and insulation. My dad has the PRHT NC2 and the hardtop was the selling point for him.

Automotive News Discussion - D_Eclipse9916 - 02-09-2019

Scott on his A-game!!! Very jealous, I love the roadster in orange and love the ND in general. It’s on my list of cars to own!

I'm realizing that this is the first orange Miata to actually hit the street, which is about exactly 30 years overdue.  There was the M-Speedster concept

& then the NC Super20 concept (one day, yes, one day....you will be mine.  My favorite Miata.)

and now this.  Nowwwww there was the '00 Evolution "Orange" but it was. not. orange.  It's goldish copper and frankly one of the worst colors I've seen on a car.

So I went to the Baltimore auto show with some friends and Jeep had the Gladiator on display. Couldn't get in and press all the buttons, but could get right up on it otherwise. It is a big boy of a Jeep. Wheelbase is 137" so not much shorter than a half-ton truck. I think I'll be able to drive one at a media day coming up in early May and the FCA rep was very in to the idea of dropping my enclosed trailer onto the hitch and seeing how it does for the sake of an article. We'll see.

Still very pumped for a convertible turbodiesel pickup truck that can tow. Here's hoping I'm not entirely let down in May Wink

My kid brother has a RF... I mean I'm down 30lbs and still don't fit well in that car. you better be sub 180lbs with narrow shoulders.

Your own flesh and blood driving a miata?   Where did you go wrong Kaan?

he burned his lips on the go fast crack pipe in the new civic... he's looking to sell the RF and get a truck, trailer, and Honda track/race car. corrective action has been taken.

he also refuses to call it a Miata lol

RE: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 02-28-2019

This is actually pretty smart - during an interview with Rivian CEO, RJ Scaringe, he stated they are using F150 bodies as their test mules. Carscoops spotted an F150 charging and speculated it could be a hybrid F150. This seems to confirm that they were wrong. Genius if you ask me.

From Jalopnik:
Quote:The company’s skateboards, which carry the electric vehicle batteries and key components, have been hidden underneath used Ford F-150 bodies as they have undergone testing.
“We need something to keep the weather out while we put a lot of miles on our skateboard, so they’re driving around in Detroit right now, too. They’re all over the place, but nobody knows. We’re very quiet about that,” Scaringe said, noting that there’s no corporate connection to Ford. The wheelbase just happens to be the right size.
In a back room at the headquarters, sections of not just F-150s but SUVs from other companies and the parts that should provide the extra capability Rivian is promising, such as quad motors to power the wheels, were on display. That area, however, was off limits for cameras.

The 488 successor: the Ferrari F8 Tributo

This car kinda puzzles me. Ferrari usually uses the same platform for two generations of their main mid-engined offering. 308/328, 348/355, and 360/430. It seems like it would be about time to replace the 458 platform but instead they're making a third iteration: 458/488/F8. Does this mean they're not gonna do an all-new car for another 4 or 5 years? Is this a stop gap for 2 or 3 years? Are they delaying on investment in a new platform to see where regulations go?

RE: Automotive News Discussion - Evan - 02-28-2019

Yeah it looks like a barely warmed over 488. But then again, I feel like the 488 isnt that old. Did they shorten the refresh cycle to fit in another model? (and drive more sales)

ps- those wheels are awful. I get it they are retro F50-ish but they dont work when they are as big as wagon wheels.

RE: Automotive News Discussion - HAULN-SS - 02-28-2019

Probably working on a hybrid?
Edit: forgot about LaFerrari...so just add "SUV" to the end of what I said

Automotive News Discussion - G.Irish - 02-28-2019

It feels a bit early to me too but the 488 came out in 2015 so the F8 for 2020 is about right. But again, usually that timeline would mean an all new car from Ferrari. It seems strange for them to do a facelift when the 720S is so radical.

But maybe they felt the true successor has to be really bonkers but needs more time in the oven. I would think that platform would at least have a hybrid option, if not a full electric option at some point.

RE: Automotive News Discussion - Steve85 - 03-01-2019

No new car until they know the bar set by the C8. Not that there will be cross shopping, but if the all new Ferrari is getting smoked by a Chevy, the Italians will cry.  Tongue
