WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - rherold9 - 02-19-2018 They obviously aren't going to say the BMW Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk RE: WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - WRXtranceformed - 02-19-2018 Ridgeline so ugly though I'm in the BMW camp RE: WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - ryangreen1 - 02-19-2018 Ridgeline's get a lot of hate for no reason IMO, especially in my friend group. Looks like an accord with a bed to me so they could be worse. They seem like all the truck 75% of truck buyers need but still go for the crew cab extra long bed dually. I don't see any downsides depending on your needs to a truck thats not much bigger than an average car and seems to be just as comfortable as one. But buy the BMW of course. RE: WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - Apoc - 02-19-2018 Ask yourself, do you want to be in a Ridgeline magazine wearing khakis? If not, BMW is the obvious choice. Seriously though, how the hell are these two choices in the same conversation? Are you sure Taylor isn't your kid? WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - *insertusernamehere* - 02-19-2018 Depends... If you're getting a fun car from Japanese classics (which, afaic, is the coolest way buy an old fun car right now) i'd say Ridgeline + fun. But if not, meh. Everything else is kinda boring. If not, BMW is the obvious choice. There was that one time I was in a meth house in lynchburg and gave a zj to score an extra hit. Not sure if that's how babies are made or not. The Prius, albeit a good appliance, is sucking away my soul. I'm 100% remote so the need for a 50mpg commuter appliance is no longer necessary. Ridgeline would be awesome for random home owner shit and tailgating in the fall. Plenty of room for the dog, kid, and then some. Plus is we do a kid 2.0 it's still got the space. But fun factor is zero. Then I dunno what older fun car I'd want? But that's another conversation. BMW solves the Fun Factor, has the room albeit in a different way. But my concern is 5yr old BMW out of warranty that has a turbo. I can deal with the BMW tax on maintaining the car, but is this thing gonna punch me in the nuts and steal my lunch money? We we're running out of time so I didn't get to spend a boat load of time in the car, but it was everything I wanted in the fun/functionality department. But, money I don't spend on a fun car with the Ridgeline could be set aside for catastrophic BMW failure. The wife says Ridgeline is her choice, but whichever I want she is good with. First world problems..... RE: WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - rherold9 - 02-19-2018 Likes everything about the car and wife approved, I don't see the dilemma here Edit: it's also not a prius WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - Senor_Taylor - 02-19-2018 Buy a 4 year old Ridgeline and turbo it. Edit: Dad?!?!?!?! RE: WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - .RJ - 02-19-2018 Ridgeline is a fucking awesome vehicle, I owned one for 5 years. Bought it new, and got good resale out of it. It drives like a minivan, parks in normal parking spaces, and can haul anything 95% of truck owners need - with the tailgate down and a bed extender, you have over 60" of bed space. The interior is fucking cavernous for its exterior dimensions. And, trunk in the bed? So useful. But, keep in mind I was doing motorcycle track days and a lot of mountain bike racing. Without that, its not as useful unless your wife is on craigslist all day but really its just buying shit you dont need anyways. But if the Prius is boring you to tears, as it should, the Ridgeline isnt going to help you. Thats why I sold it and bought a B7 A4 and rent a uhaul van twice a year. You can get a CPO F31, there should be enough warranty left in that to give you an idea if you want to keep it long term. RE: WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - Apoc - 02-19-2018 (02-19-2018, 08:28 PM).RJ Wrote: CPO F31 +1 RE: WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - HAULN-SS - 02-19-2018 Test drove some shit today. The CX-5 is the best handling of the bunch by far. It's also generally the cheapest. Caitlin says she doesn't like the seating position much, fucks with her back (she sits with a car seat nearly straight up, and the headrests are angled forward and not adjustable, so, maybe). It does have a weird ergo thing where the cupholders are at like your elbow. Dafuq? There is a 2017 CPO with 9k miles, and the premium package which gives you the heads up display, rear heated seats, heated steering wheel, and probably something I forget. Browns in Chantilly literally thinks that is worth $300 less than a 2018 with no miles, because they gave it an extended warranty? Fuck'em. Also went to oursville in rockville. They actually had the best price, and the best internet prices, but the guy at Brown's says "oh, but they have more fees..ours are only $695", which, fuck that. Anyway, I didnt have time in Rockville to go through the full song and dance, but they are on the table to see if I can get one for like $29k out the door. Also test drove a Rav4 because of reasons. It is the most expensive of the bunch. The one we tested was a mid-level with leather. It drove the worst of the test drives. It generally had nice looking seats, but the tech was lacking: no active lights, no heads up, dated looking center stack (unless you go up a trim level $$$), generally less tech package shit. Worst MPG of the bunch. Of course the random-ass one we picked out of the lot had a two tone grey/burnt orange leather that looked pretty good, and Wow'd the wife. Fuck. Didn't drive, but looked at a Forester. Had generally OK level of tech, looked decent, but the interior just felt cheap. Miles of that lizard-skin plastic shit, everywhere. Expensive when you get into optioning out. Do subarus actually have the best AWD? Surprise of the day: 2018 CR-V. I guess these were recently updated, and we randomly decided to check them out. Cheaper than the Rav4, more expensive than the CX-5. Decent level of tech, a turbo 1.5l that has slightly more power, and better MPG than any of the other options. Already has carplay/android auto (which is coming soon to CX-5, even already sold ones, according to two dealers). Had a decent looking interior, nice screen, pleated seats, etc. I wonder if I can find one CPO somewhere? Maybe a compromise if I can't get her off the Rav4. Other discussions taking place: Should we just go older, but up-market? Seems like maybe we can, for example, get an RX350 for a lot less, approximately 2015 model, which may have some of the same features that 2018 of cheaper brands are getting. Are any older, "luxury" CUVs worth looking at? WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - ViPER1313 - 02-19-2018 Reliable? Practical? 555hp? https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/722650155/overview?aff=share_text WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - ViPER1313 - 02-19-2018 I mean, if she wants a RAV4, tell her to get a RAV4. All CUV things are pretty much the same in the end. The Toyota will likely be easy and cheap to own and make her happy, which are the only things I care about in a significant others car. The way I look at it, it’s one less thing for me to work on or worry about. Are any older, "luxury" CUVs worth looking at? If that's the case, you can absolutely find a Q5 with extended or CPO warranty https://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/cto/d/2016-audi-q5-20t-premium-plus/6490358393.html Really nice cars. RE: WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - HAULN-SS - 02-20-2018 Here's another thing - all Toyotas now come with some version of adaptive cruise control/ lane keep/ auto braking thing. And every CUV I've looked at has it as an option. Shes kind of been acting like thats her must have feature, which makes going too old a no. Looks like some of the Q5s may have it, but ill have to do some digging RE: WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - Jake - 02-20-2018 FWIW I've been generally unimpressed with Subaru interiors. They seem to lag pretty far behind the competition and feel kind of dated from day one. I've heard good things about their EyeSight driver-assistance-BS package though. Beyond that, get whatever bland crossover comes in the colors you like, they're all similar enough. Justin, get the BMW (for, I'm assuming, less money than the Ridgeline) and save the extra cash in a bank account for whatever repairs and U-Haul pickup rentals you need a few times a year. WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - Senor_Taylor - 02-20-2018 Do you want a stress free life... Or MM street cred? The choice is clear. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - JustinG - 02-20-2018 Called and got insurance quotes on the BMW and the Ridgeline. +$300 for the Ridgeline, and +$4-500 for the BMW. BMW is the winner ATM, but we will see where it goes. A friend is checking his dealership contacts to see what 15+s in my price range are available. There are a lot out there, just trying to find one with the options I want, given how they let you randomly pick Msport bits. And im sure it'll be asked... CPO 15+ $30k Sub 45k White/Estoril/Black Black/Coral/Saddle Brown Must haves: Xenon headlights Msport bumpers Sport seats Sport steering wheel Cold weather package Parking package Nice to haves: Msport brakes Msport suspension Driver assist package RE: WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - D_Eclipse9916 - 02-20-2018 Madison Msports? |
