I've got five devices and it's just me:

2 Laptops
1 Phone
1 Fire Stick
1 Goddammit, Alexa!

If I add another GDIAlexa and some connected lights/thermostat, I could probably get close to 10 devices.

2 people.

7 devices on my network. what is wrong with you people.

RE: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - Ken - 01-11-2018

2 people
~15 devices

Laptops, cell phones, smart TV's, Sonos', Echo, Fire TV's, Kindles. Adds up.

Same # of devices connected.

I'm gonna go with yes, this fixed it.

My Dad had the same issue but with the Comcast router. Having to use the rented Comcast router because my Mom wants to keep home phone so badly. Had almost no signal on one side of the house with abysmal speeds/inconsistent speeds. Only could get the speed right next to it half the time. I'm surprised he figured it out but he bought a decent wireless router and got it up and running on his own. Signal was so much better, consistent speeds, etc. Not sure why the rented routers are so trash. Comcast would not admit anything is wrong with the router and would only just send the same router out.

Edit: Nice dick measuring contest going on.

13 devices I think but that counts a printer and then two laptops that aren't really on that much in favor of the two tablets and then a 3rd tablet that's never on. That's also because I use a rf bridge for my smart outlets otherwise I'd have like 5 more devices on it for my outlets

Xfinity routers also broadcast that public channel for other xfinity customers to use but I don't know if that slows them down or if they're just shit.

Home automation. Justin probably has 14 light bulbs on his network.

This struck me as a little odd, and as it turns out, just so I can learn something... this was the issue right? What you're trying to support is what would have been considered a small/medium sized business just a few years ago, but from a basic home router, with no experienced IT guy to set it up.
I cannot even think of 27 Internet things. And my router supports two households.  Huh

Oh it's not that hard. My household (4 people) has:

2 Kindle Fires
2 Kindle Paperwhites
2 Phones
3 Laptops
1 DVD Player
1 Smart TV
1 Playstation 4
3 Smart Speakers

That's 15 without even really trying.

He has double with one less person.

That's kinda where I was going with the complicated comment.

Tonight, I'll go home and check my router... and probably see we have like 40 devices or some shit.

Off the top of my head, I'd estimate we have about 15.

4 phones (2 work, 2 personal)

3 laptops (Personal, 2 work)

TV

Harmony hub

Chromecast video

Roku

Chrome cast audio

Sound bar

3 Google homes (1 home, 2 minis)

2 tablets (Kids fire tablet, iPad)

2 Thermostats

2 Cameras

Security Panel

Nintendo Switch

So I have 24 devices connected. I only really thought of what I use daily.

Outside of that it adds up fast. I didn't even think of the Thermostats or the Harmony hub cause they do their job out of sight.

Can wipeout the Chromecast video and the Roku with the new TV.

Also have the PS4, Blu Ray player, a Printer, a VOIP box, and 2 laptop docks hardwired.

Skynet will take over my house first.

How many kilowatt hours do you use a month?

The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - JustinG - 01-11-2018

1.21 gigawatts

RE: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - ScottyB - 01-14-2018

just picked up a Pixel 2 64g for the wife and a 128g for myself.  was hard on the fence with getting the LG V30 instead but we videocall the family a lot and the front facing camera was too crappy to ignore.

we'll see how it goes, we hold onto phones a long time (coming from an iphone 4S, i know i know) so hoping this one stays solid for a while.

I'm an Android fanboi but even I'll say, if you plan to keep a phone (especially a pixel where the first generation definitely didn't seem to have the best track record) for a long time, like old iPhone long time, you're going to have a miserable experience. 2 years is pretty much the max plus pixels don't even have all the features of the top Android phones. See: wireless charging.

i hope i'm wrong. i've seen a lot of positive reviews, and i'm very invested in the google ecosystem so i'm willing to give it a shot. its not like my old iphone was amazing, it was just so memory-weak that i never got to actually use a lot of apps or features to begin with.

a lot of "features" on newer phones are actually liabilities to me due to the way i use them, including glass backs, which i specifically avoided. i take mine everywhere, including outdoor/camping trips where it's going to get banged around, and yet another pane of glass is definitely getting cracked. i could care less about having to plug in a power cord, seems like the most first world problem ever.

we'll see how it goes. 14 day trial period may come in handy.

The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - Sully - 01-15-2018

It somewhat is but the way I look at it is if the technology is clearly there and everyone else is using it, why should I pay the same amount for a phone that doesn't have it but your argument is valid if you really don't want a glass back which I also hate. I wish they'd just offer plastic backs (the s5 wireless charging back was plastic, not glass) but also one thing with micro USB is they seem to wear out relatively quickly and then you go to plug it in and it won't charge unless you jiggle it and prob it up on something or stuff like that.

Pixel XL for over a year, ZERO issues.

RE: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - ScottyB - 01-15-2018

yeah i mean if i could expect wireless charging on a non-glass back from most competitors right now i might feel differently. i just know i don't really care about it, or want glass all over the place even though its going to go in a case anyway.
