When did pretty plain looking E30's sell for $8500?

Channing, you still got that junkyard?

Damn. One of my friends just bought a '90 325i sedan with ~150k on it for $1800. Pricing on them is insane.

How clean of a car did he get for $1800? I still see some cheap ones from time to time but they tend to have bad paint and rust issues, it just seems like E30s are at the age now where having a solid, rust-free chassis and good paint makes all the difference.

I haven't seen many photos yet. It's Calypso Red and I know it has a slightly crunched rocker on the front right, under the fender. But, I think replacing the fender would fix that.

I'm going to tell my friend about this. He's been looking at some sort of boosted JDM project to mess around with and he already owns 2 Lexuses (lexi?).

Beautiful but yeah too much money. Also, I didn't know those got WBS VIN's so that's sorta interesting.

Their prices are laughably high but they only pickup really nice classic bmws and stand by their sales. Apparently, you find issues with the car after being bought and they still pay for it to get done. I wouldn't do it, but let's say I knew nothing about cars and REALLY wanted an older BMW. Might be worth the premium....

Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - WRXtranceformed - 02-23-2016

So you're saying it's like a REALLY expensive aftermarket warranty?

WRXtranceformed Wrote:So you're saying it's like a REALLY expensive aftermarket warranty?

But its not an aftermarket warranty. Its buying a known good used car, with a "warranty" from actual enthusiasts instead of pinch-penny "warranty" companies. If a coworker who knew nothing about cars and REALLY wanted an older school bmw... I would probably send them that way.

Ask Mikey, even though you can have a warranty, a car that is in the shop all the time isn't awesome either Wink

I hope EAG gets AIDS, all of them.

Like, I get that it's a free market and they can do whatever the hell they want to do, if there wasn't a place for them in the market then they would go out of business. That being said, I've heard dozens of allegations that they buy up low mileage cars from private sellers without disclosing their identity, then just park them on their lot and double the price. I would never do business with them even if I had the money.

What really surprises me is that they do stay in business, I have a hard time believing there are enough people clamoring to buy $75,000 E39 M5s or $40k fucking station wagons for them to keep their lights on, but I guess there are. :dunno:

I can't imagine being comfortable owning and driving this car. There's no way in hell I could ever get it the attention and love it deserves. Keeping that car in that good of condition would be a second full time job.

Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - Beej - 02-23-2016

Ha, I got my M3 from EAG - 5 years ago, and at a price that isn't quite as outrageous as they have been lately.

Who knows what goes on behind closed doors, but I thought they were fair and ethical. They bought one car I had a handshake deal on (guy was desperate for the extra $2k I had negotiated off), and they also bought a good friend's M3, disclosing simply that they were "a dealer."

I mentioned while I was out there that even 5 years ago, I was surprised there was a market for as many cars as they go through. I still am. It makes the search for clean cars annoying when they snatch them up, but they're keeping the prices of cars I own high, so yay capitalism.

Also, it is really fucking cool to see what an e30 M3 looked like when it rolled off the lot.

Meh, only if you planned to daily drive it, and presumably with mileage that low, coming from an enthusiast seller, keeping up with what broke on it while getting 2000mi/year would be nothing like the hell most of us dumbass MM BMW guys subject ourselves too.

Makes me think the only way to really enjoy a BMW is to lease or buy new and sell when the warranty expires. Unless you're made out of money and time.

Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - SlimKlim - 02-23-2016

Only if you're the kind of person that wants to drive a fast car without ever opening the hood.

Old, fun sports cars just need TLC, it's the way of the world. Owners of one brand always throw shade at owners of another for their cars being particularly shitty and unreliable, but I can't honestly think of a desirable 10-15+ year old sports car that doesn't have some skeletons in it's closet, except the S2000 maybe. And even if you do get a car with a reputation as solid as the S2k you'll have normal wear and tear shit to deal with, tires, brakes, shocks, seals, hoses, belts, etc.
