$36K-ish

WRXtranceformed Wrote:Wow, almost identical mileage to my car and almost the same price. That is nuts, is that what those go for?
Yeah, gotta love that Comp O tax!

Competition Orange easily bumps the cars value up $3K-$5K over the same car in any other color. With this example being low mileage, modded with some extremely choice parts, and Comp O (only 281 built in this color for one model year) it commands $30K+.

Yeah I love terminators as much as the next guy but that seems all kinds of drug-enduced dumb. I could see an unmodded example with that mileage drawing somewhat of a premium, but not close to MSRP premium.

Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - fiveoh2go - 01-14-2016

Sucks but the market sets the price, classic case of demand far exceeding the supply.

If you think the price on the car in the link is crazy you don't wanna know what a "wrapper" Comp O car can go for.

that notch is perfect. don't know if i could manage with manual brakes on a thing that fast but when have mustangs ever been easy to drive.

wonder why he's selling it? tranny's only got 200 miles on it.

The brakes prob wouldn't be that bad, this car may weight 3,000lbs..maybe a little less. I'm thinking the manual steering at parking lot speeds would be a pain in the ass though. I'd love to throw a Terminator brake kit on this notch along with a Maximum Motorsports Road & Track suspension system.

I was hoping you'd tell me what a "wrapper" is.

Its a car that has never been dealer prepped for sale. A "wrapper" will still have all its assembly line markings/stickers/protective wrap/covers in place just as it was when driven off the assembly line. These cars are typically very low mileage (less than 50).

That's pretty neat.

Would there be concerns about removing all the white plastic-y stuff from the paint after so many years?

I've never heard of any, but most of these vehicles are trading hands between collectors who have no intention of removing anything from these cars anyway.

That's what makes wrappers even more desirable to collectors than the same exact car that's been prepped and driven a couple thousand miles. Everyone does that, that's what normal people do! How often though does someone just buy a cool car and not drive it let alone demand the dealer leave all the factory markings/protective covers on it and then set it aside for 15-20-25 years in dry storage? Boggles my mind.

To me it's kinda sad that the car will prob never be driven but at the same time its cool to see a car just the way it rolled off the transporter when new.

This x1000. I understand the collector car investment market, but damn it is sad to see performance minded cars sit for their entire lives.

Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - Jake - 01-19-2016

Dang. What a sad way for a car to live its life.

Or not live, as the case may be.

Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - ScottyB - 01-19-2016

i get the "just like factory!" thing but i can't imagine walking out to my garage (or palace, if i was dreaming realistically) and looking at a normally beautiful car covered in white diapers and trash bag plastic. i mean, at that point, its not even art...you can't really even sit in it. might as well put it in a shipping container and bury it in the ground until its time to sell it to buy a bigger yacht.

If I was rich, I'd buy one of those and make a youtube video of removing all that shit, and lighting the dry rotted tires up til they popped

Good luck getting the wheel bearings to turn, and the motor not popping within that timeframe

Do not understand collector cars. This is why I also don't buy garage queens.

Someone yeeeears ago bought a '93 R (of which 107 were built) with single digit mileage and then preceded to gut it and turn it into a road course car. Collectors FLIPPED OUT. I was kinda happy to see it fulfill its intended purpose.

This story makes me a little sick though...so there is this guy who fell into some money (can't remember if it was inheritance or an insurance settlement) and decided that he should buy a '00 R and make that his year round daily....
