WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - ViPER1313 - 01-30-2018 I mean, your did recently get the go ahead to do whatever you want. https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/725756080/overview?aff=share_text RE: WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - ScottyB - 01-30-2018 .RJ Wrote:There's a civic Si at a small dealer in Arlington that has an... interesting paper trail, with questionably low miles, repossessed early on and sold at auction twice - https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=474574081 - I wonder what kind of ghosts are in the vents. Scotty, I feel your pain in finding one of these. The cloth seats may knock it off the list anyways. 2012, so that's a 9th gen, like Polen has here's a decent 8th gen sedan if you're willing to travel. high dealer pricing of course: https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=476460000&zip=28277&referrer=%2Fcars-for-sale%2Fsearchresults.xhtml%3Fzip%3D28277%26startYear%3D2008%26vehicleStyleCodes%3DSEDAN%26incremental%3Dall%26endYear%3D2011%26modelCodeList%3DCIVIC%26makeCodeList%3DHONDA%26driveGroup%3DFWD%26transmissionCodes%3DMAN%26listingTypes%3Dused%26sortBy%3DderivedpriceDESC%26firstRecord%3D0%26searchRadius%3D200%26trimCodeList%3DCIVIC%257CSi&listingTypes=used&startYear=2008&numRecords=25&vehicleStyleCodes=SEDAN&firstRecord=0&endYear=2011&modelCodeList=CIVIC&makeCodeList=HONDA&searchRadius=200&makeCode1=HONDA&modelCode1=CIVIC and here's a nice grey one that's higher mileage but non-crack pricing, and the dealer seems to at least understand the condition of the car judging by their description: https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=460920112&zip=28277&referrer=%2Fcars-for-sale%2Fsearchresults.xhtml%3Fzip%3D28277%26startYear%3D2008%26vehicleStyleCodes%3DSEDAN%26incremental%3Dall%26endYear%3D2011%26modelCodeList%3DCIVIC%26makeCodeList%3DHONDA%26driveGroup%3DFWD%26transmissionCodes%3DMAN%26sellerTypes%3Dd%26listingTypes%3Dused%26sortBy%3DderivedpriceDESC%26firstRecord%3D0%26searchRadius%3D200%26trimCodeList%3DCIVIC%257CSi&sellerTypes=d&listingTypes=used&startYear=2008&numRecords=25&vehicleStyleCodes=SEDAN&firstRecord=0&endYear=2011&modelCodeList=CIVIC&makeCodeList=HONDA&searchRadius=200&makeCode1=HONDA&modelCode1=CIVIC i don't care for the Honda Factory Performance body kit/wheels but this coupe is pretty nice: https://greenville.craigslist.org/cto/d/2011-honda-civic-si-coupe/6472348400.html super low miles sedan in raleigh with goofball headlights but otherwise stock: https://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/d/2009-civic-si-low-miles/6462446157.html my favorite - semi low miles sedan in newport news in a super rare color, i think its called redline orange or something: https://norfolk.craigslist.org/ctd/d/2009-honda-civic-si-6/6467508793.html i don't have Carp Facts but one thing i've noticed with dealer ads is that if they're selling an Si and don't have a library of images, its because the car's either modified or beat to death with a sordid history...don't even bother. Dude put down the crack pipe. It is a GM product and a Buick no less. You know the materials are absolute crap. Stop lying to yourself. I really don't hate this idea out of the other ones thrown out here. Porsche's are supposed to be top of the reliability list for luxury makes right? Was that true in 2007 or is it a more recent thing? I had a buddy that had a Carerra 4S that was a POS but that's about my only first hand knowledge of someone who has lived with one RE: WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - D_Eclipse9916 - 01-30-2018 (01-30-2018, 10:07 AM)WRXtranceformed Wrote:(01-30-2018, 12:49 AM)ViPER1313 Wrote: I mean, your did recently get the go ahead to do whatever you want. They aren't bad but still have the Porsche Tax and 2007 still was not the "cayman" motor to get. I would wait for an 09 or above which is a pretty good upgrade. Price feels high, but you're right, its a unicorn hunt. And no porsches until I get a garage. Depending on the weather over the next week or two I'll see how I feel about GM products after sampling an ATS. All the internet reviews are pretty overwhelmingly positive, except for the nav system and lack of back seat space. RE: WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - JPolen01 - 01-30-2018 What's wrong with the first gen Cayman motors? Power 3. They just seem weak from a reliability standpoint in racing (hence why I put it third) RE: WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - G.Irish - 01-30-2018 IMS bearing problem isn't really a big deal for Caymans, it was more of a problem for the 996 911's (non-turbo). What 987.1 Caymans did suffer from is oil starvation issues when cornering load, which is why some people who tracked them or raced them had issues. I thought the power on my Cayman S was fine. It doesn't have the grunt of a V8 but it's a light and nimble car with a glorious flat-6 and excellent feel. The 2009+ is clearly better and doesn't have any oiling issues, so I would get one of those if they fit in budget. Bodymotion makes a nice billet aluminum oil pan that I am sure costs $5k or something stupid
RE: WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - .RJ - 01-30-2018 I dont have room or budget for a 3rd car, so it needs a back seat at minimum - which is why I bought a 135 instead of a Cayman S or Z4M. This story remains in suspense. RE: WTF should I buy (A consolidated list of bad decisions) - HAULN-SS - 02-16-2018 Is this the thread now for trying to figure out what to buy? The wife probably totaled her car today. She wants a "small SUV" - what are the good options here that I can buy preferably CPO or lightly used for $20,000 ish. She also keeps talking about "lets get something new because the costs are so close" but I hate the idea of buying brand new. I don't really care what she gets, but she was talking about getting a Rav4 (her car was a 2012 corolla, and I hated it as far as comfort/feature levels), but I was thinking there are probably something else more comfortable perhaps. Only real requirement is AWD, everything else negotiable. |
