I think I'm pretty much settled on 255/85/16s. Apparently the only tire in the world that comes that size is the KM2, which is okay. It'll be cool because these tires are well over 33 inches tall but they shouldn't rub at all on my lift. If I want to fit 265 or wider on my truck and no rub, I need to be at a 32, which I don't want. I think I'll just order them off of Tire Rack. Should I go ask around some shops to see if they can order them cheaper?

What's your opinion on the 255/85/16? I see no downsides. Light weight, maximum ground clearance compared to a wider tire. Same or nearly the same contact patch as my current 265/70/16. Traction has never been an issue, it's been ground clearance.

Better than Duratracs? Sidewall weakness is why I've been avoiding them. I'm not getting any kind of warranty with KM2s, am I? Wink

I don't know much about it. I know I plan to run 33x10.5s on the XJ eventually. It's nice balance between the height and not sacrificing ride quality. The skinnier tire also tucks nicer during frex.

Generally speaking, on most 4x4's your Transfer case (and cross-member) is hanging below the frame rails and thus robbing you of "belly" clearance. It gets worse if you add a transfer case drop or something to compensate for poor driveline angles associated with lifting.

Most people will "clock" the transfer case and then build a flat crossmember so that you no longer have that clearance issue.

Colton built a flat belly/skid since he runs very little lift.

Oh. I've never seen anyone do that on a Tacoma. I'm pretty sure once I get full skids. Everything will be relatively flat. My crossmember hangs lower than my T case does and I've only banged that up a light when I high centered myself. Why aren't these T-cases clocked from stock?

Now the doubt sets in. These 255s are really tricky. I'm thinking maybe I'll just got 285/75/16 and do the trimming I need to do and hope they don't rub too bad then I'm stuffed.

May run into trouble since I don't have my front springs on yet.

Double check how much you will rub on turning lock-to-lock and not just fenders. You're gonna get some awful noise at full stuff if you're trying to give steering input over obstacles. Confusedhock:

I may just have to settle for 32s. If I do, I'll just wait until these tires have ran their course. Maybe this is the summer of Miata for me?

I keep telling myself if I get new coils springs, LCAs and the rear suspension setup I will be happy.. :lol:

What will make me happy is getting my front springs. Only reason I was thinking tires is I have the money for them now. I've REALLY wanted a car for a long time. DDing the Taco is getting old. Once I get skids, I'll be set.

I had them ordered, and they were backordered so I cancelled them. I've been waiting to order them because I really don't want to go through the trouble of installing them myself.
