The more time I work on and spend time around Porsches, the more I love...and get scurred of them.

Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - SlimKlim - 02-03-2014

A 993 (ideally a 4S) is one of my "realistic" dream cars but the pricing on them is just insane. You might see one or two out there in decent condition for under $30k, but they quickly jump to $40k+ or $60-70k+ for what looks to be (to my uninitiated eyes) the same damn thing as the sub-30k car with more professional photos.

I wonder if people are actually paying those astronomical prices for mid-90s cars or if the ones you see on eBay are just disillusioned sellers. I have a hard time believing an old German car just simply didn't depreciate.

I'm having the same thing happen to me except for the scared part. Having never been around Porsches then hanging around a 964 RSR, 997 cups, and the 991 cups has me lusting after one. I really want a 964.

Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - D_Eclipse9916 - 02-03-2014

The 991 cups are awesome but BIGGGGG bitches. It's funny to see even at PCA events the switch to Caymans in the past 2 years. Even driving around in the paddock a 996 GT3 race car vs '12 Cayman S Race car how much tighter and put together the Cayman is only ~8-10 years later.

No dipsticks PISS ME OFF to no end. Yay for trying to check oil on a race car and having to wait for a "system countdown of 1 hour" after youve turned it back on.

I would love a Cayman race car, but the engine reliability itself over years of abuse isnt perfect, and at $16k for a new one, it prices me out.

Joey: There was a clean silver 993 (rwd) at Sebring Raceway this past weekend fo $29k. I thought it was a decent price for the car.

I thought I was gonna have a nosebleed when I drove Jake's 128i and realized it didn't have a coolant temp gauge on the dashboard.

And I guess I'm the disillusioned one, just under $30k seems to be about as little as you'll pay for a decent 993. Oh well. I've heard the 993s are particularly miserable to work on anyway. If I decide that I want to daily another funky old German car, I'm going to save up and pay cash for a clean example, and just have my shop do anything I don't feel like dealing with.

Yeah, start car and wait for it to get to temp before you can check the oil. Which takes ~15 minutes. Great until you're clanking around 2 qts low (just theoretically!) but can't know for sure.

And I know when the motor gets to temp because it lets me check the oil level.

Was a dipstick so hard?

This is pretty neat. And expensive.

Those are the same wheels I had on my CTS.

Definitely a lot of money for that car though!

Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - JPolen01 - 02-05-2014

Definitely cool. I'm sure it cost him a lot to do that swap but 50k seems like a crazy amount for anyone to pay. Who knows though. Some crazy rich guy might snatch this up for TX2k14 as a turn key car.

Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - Sully - 02-05-2014

But wait, theres more!

For $30k I'll give you a rolling shell of a stock car that retails for $31k. Damn, just can't pass up that deal. Somebody better get on this.

That's what I'd probably do.

So I just stumbled upon this dealership in Richmond, Japanese Classics, that is an importer of JDM stuff - and being that 25 years ago was 1989, the pickings are starting to get good.

Like a minty CRX Si

Or a 40k-mile Silvia

Or my favorite, this little guy

Trying to figure out where the hell this place is?????

Re: Cool cars for sale that ain't yours! - Goodspeed - 02-16-2014

The eBay ad for the City Turbo said Chesterfield, I think...but you're right, no street address given. Probably trying to stay hidden to keep all us fanbois from stumbling through their door every 10 minutes...

Dang. Imported cars are going to get sweet [for us]. I'd bet there are tons out this way. Need to refocus my "beater" search Smile
