Re: The tires thread "So I need tires..." - .RJ - 07-21-2014 What is the discounted tire rack install rate? I ass-u-med you bend over and pay $25 per tire + disposal + "environmental fees" no matter where you go (other than costco or wally world). Depends on wheel size, but I only paid $15 a tire on the Subaru + Disposal Re: The tires thread "So I need tires..." - Kaan - 07-29-2014 walmart did mount/balance for $85 out the door on 5 tires... no disposal since the rims were naked. they did have and use the sticky insde weights. Re: The tires thread "So I need tires..." - .RJ - 07-29-2014 Ok, so I did get tires at costco. Mostly painless - ordered online, they arrived at the shop 2 days later. I called when the store opened on Saturday, they told me they were already at a 3+ hour wait, first come first serve, no appointments. So I then ask about Sunday, and they say to come in at 8am, but the shop hours are "10-6". This didnt make sense, but they told me "sometimes they open early". I dont know what the fuck that means, so I get there at 8:30 Sunday morning, and its already a 1-1.5 hour wait - and of course, the tire shop has their hours of 8-6 on the fucking door. Thanks, assholes. And, that 1-1.5 hour wait turned into 2.5 hours. Oh well. The price on the tires was good and they didnt break my tire pressure sensors. Not sure if I'd do this again or just use the shop within walking distance of my house and order from tire rack. That's kind of high isn't it? I think the shop I use in Hburg does it for $40 or $45 for a set of 4. Re: The tires thread "So I need tires..." - Jake - 08-08-2014 Curious about tire sizes. Someone learn me. The 128 currently is running BBS wheels, sized 17x8.5". I've got tires that are 235/45/17 on them now. Wayyy too much sidewall. It fills the wheel wells and there's no way I could lower the car at all. They rub the fender liners on hard bumps. What can I get, size-wise, that will fit an 8.5" wheel and give me a thinner sidewall profile? I've looked on Tire Rack for 235/40 and the selection seems very limited. Can a 225 fit on an 8.5? Re: The tires thread "So I need tires..." - SlimKlim - 08-08-2014 Factory Tire Size: 205/50/17 = 25.07in Diameter 225/45/17 = 24.97in 235/40/17 = 24.40in 235/45/17 = 25.32in 245/40/17 = 24.70in 255/40/17 = 25.03in The 255s are almost perfect. Jus's sayin. A 225 should fit on an 8.5 but it's going to look like you're going for a mild stretch, these are 225/40/18s on an 8.5: ![]() What's weird is you're saying the 235/45s are too large for the wheel wells when they're actually within 1.5% of the original diameter. Maybe the car just doesn't have that much room under it? The 245/40s are a smidge smaller than the original diameter which might give you a touch more clearance, and if you went a tire that tends to run small/has a rounded shoulder, then it should still have enough room under the fender. How is the inner fender clearance? Maybe those BBS have too low of an offset to work well on that car? You should come over and steal a 245/35/18 +35s off of my car and see how it bolts up to yours for scientific purposes. They're only 0.5in larger than 245/40/17s so it would be a pretty accurate test fit. Re: The tires thread "So I need tires..." - HAULN-SS - 08-08-2014 8.5 could probably take up to 260 or so. You could go wider and shorter to possibly get a good look if there are more options that way Re: The tires thread "So I need tires..." - Jake - 08-08-2014 235 is the widest you can fit up front without doing some work to the fenders and adding negative camber. Really don't want to do a staggered setup, nor do I need the width for all 208 whp I'm producing. Re: The tires thread "So I need tires..." - SlimKlim - 08-08-2014 Why not sell the wheels and tires you have now as a package and pick up a set of 17x8s to run a 225/45/17. Virtually the same diameter as stock and you should have a ton more room to play with if you end up lowering it. Or keep the wheels and get your stretch on. Re: The tires thread "So I need tires..." - Jake - 08-08-2014 I like the wheels though... the 225 on an 8.5 image doesn't look bad to me. Definitely not too stretched/stancey. Re: The tires thread "So I need tires..." - HAULN-SS - 10-28-2014 So I'm thinking about buying new tires for the ATS in the not too distant future. It has run-flats on it right now. My buddy who's dad is VP Manufacturing at Nitto tells me that run flats are shitty tires, and for anything that a can of fix a flat won't fix, they're pointless anyway. So should I just get regular tires? I have no spare. Any recommendations? I'd like to get at least 30k miles out of them. These are at 26 and getting pretty slick in the rain already. Separately - I am thinking about buying new rims for the car and using these stock ones as winter wheels. What's your recommendation for a grippy winter/all season tire that might work good on a RWD, manual trans platform. I know when I got in a couple slick spots last winter with this car it was straight up a sled, and that's coming from tail happy monte carlos that i've always driven. Re: The tires thread "So I need tires..." - davej - 10-28-2014 coming from the north east, it's studded snows or nothing, but down here i used blizzaks on the forester and van, they've been great so far. although i still get odd looks from people when i tell them i need to put the winter tires on. did grab a front set of studded tires from my father in law the Fit this year though. Re: The tires thread "So I need tires..." - HAULN-SS - 10-28-2014 I guess I should also note that I have 4WD vehicles at my disposal. I was thinking about winter's for the odd chance I get caught out somewhere accidentally. And was trying to figure out something to do with these busted rims Re: The tires thread "So I need tires..." - D_Eclipse9916 - 10-28-2014 HAULN-SS Wrote:I guess I should also note that I have 4WD vehicles at my disposal. It is what I suggest to everyone. When my BFGs run out that I got for cheap I will be going to the Contis and then just use my race wheels for autox stuff. He said they were just solid no matter the conditions - his car does have a LSD to help out, too. Re: The tires thread "So I need tires..." - HAULN-SS - 10-28-2014 Hrmm ok I will check those out. That does ruin my plans of buying another set of rims if I go that route though Re: The tires thread "So I need tires..." - D_Eclipse9916 - 10-28-2014 davej Wrote:they are a solid middle ground from doing things the right way. Right way?
