The tires thread "So I need tires..."

I figured tires are a common question among members of this forum. So, instead of multiple threads in the future just post your "What tires should I get for X car for Y reason" in this thread. Also, any issue with tire fitment to rims or rims to cars can go in here as well.

So, I'll kick it off. The van needs new shoes. The rims are 16X6. I know its small, but its all I need. I want a tire I can use on the van as well as the Daytona and I would like it to be "all season" but directional and sporty. The rims themselves are directional...so I want a tire to match.

So, first off is size. I'm thinking 215/55/16 is the size I need. The Tire Rack says...

Van w/ 16s - 215/55/16
Daytona w/16s - 205/55/16 (what is on it now)

Tires.com says 215/60/16 for the van.

What do you guys think on a 6in wide rim? I think the 215 will be better on the Daytona if I use these on it. So, wider is better, lower profile is better. Will a 215 fit the rim with a 55 sidewall?

I'm looking at two Falken tires right now. Anyone have anything to say about these? What else should I look at that fits my needs? Oh, cheaper=better.

The second one has a higher treadwear rating and a higher speed rating. I don't need the speed...and I'm not super cool on the lower treadwear. I want a tire that will last a minute as well.

holy crap a 215 on a 6-inch rim? Definitely go the 60 profile, its gonna bulge anyway, so might as well make it look like it is supposed to.

Go with the falken Ziex if you want falkens, I heard they are incredibly nice.

What will look better? a 205/55 or a 215/60? I think the 60 will be too much tire to be used on the Daytona. The rims have 205/55s on them right now and they look decent. I believe the Sebring has 6in wide rims and they have 215/55s on them. Maybe they are 6.5in rim.

I love my Ziex 512s so far, but I haven't driven on them enough to really give a good review. Road noise is noticeably quieter than the Kumho garbage I had on there before, sidewall is stiff, tires are grippy through turns and they feel reasonable in the rain. Price is right too!

My wheels are staggered, so i'm running 235/40 18s in the front and 245/40 18s in the rear.

Stock size is 215/60R16
Running 225/50R16

If you dont mind a bit of bulge and they will clear put some 225/55R16s on them thangs

$59 per is a killer deal on really good tires, $84 is also pretty good for 235/45/17 for those of us with blingin' 17s as well.

The continental tires Chrysler uses on the 300C are garbage. They don't last for shit and they don't grip worth it either. I'm "test driving" a 300c this weekend...I'll report back futher :twisted:

NE way, could it be that the fact that they are run-flat makes it wear out faster?

my car is getting inspected tomorrow. my hankooks are at 2/32" so i'm assuming my car will fail, which means i will most likely need new tires. the price is now $88 for 235/45/17 in the link above. i'd like to try one of these off brand tires, but Dunlops for $88, i'm not sure i should. anyone have anything bad to say about dunlops or the SP sport 8000?

SP sport 8000E tires were OEM standard equipment on my audi and also on the early M coupe.

very good tire overall but dangerous in the snow. they have a soft sidewall and will roll over bad without high pressure. reasonably quiet. they lasted 25k before wearing the outside shoulder bare from hard cornering....the rest of the tread still had life left.

Loud, doesn't like the wet, grips like shit in the dry. All in all, a terrible tire.
