  Sigh...
Posted by: Mike - 02-26-2004, 11:13 AM - Forum: Lounge - Replies (68)

Woke up today, got all ready for class, hopped in the car, picked up a friend, and then I hit the red light on reservoir/sheetz. A cop pulls up in the turning lane next to me, no big deal, I'm driving legally. Light goes green, I accelerate at a normal pace already having forgotten the cop since I wasn't doing anything wrong (funny, now that I drive normally I don't pay much attention to them). I pull in to the Festival lot over by the Walmart entrance, park my car, shut it off, and bam there is Officer P.R. McCullough, a good ole' boy, lights a-flashin'. I question my roomate as to what I did wrong, for the life of us we can't come up with a thing. Good ole' P.R. McCullough walks up to the side of the car where I had already gotten out, bag in hand, and tells me that my muffler is illegal... *SIGH* I tell him that I just ordered something quieter and less flashy since I had finally saved up the funds to do so, and that it would be installed within the next week or two (I really did order a new muffler about 4 days ago). He doesn't care, writes me a citation for "Use of unapproved exhaust" and lets me go on my way, now 25 minutes late to class.

I really felt like asking him if he was doing the same citation for all the Mustangs, Camaros, and Harleys I often see around town that are in fact louder than my car, but my judgement got the better of me and I bit my tongue; two ignorant assholes are no better than one...

I've got a court date on March 24. If I have my new muffler (relatively stock looking but 2.5" in/out) installed before then it'll be waived. What a pain in the ass.

  odd question
Posted by: ScottyB - 02-25-2004, 10:05 PM - Forum: Technical Discussion - Replies (22)

while me, boobies, feersty, and mike were riding back from VIR, mike kept telling me i didnt need to downshift going uphill, even if the engine was bogging. his reasoning was that downshifting only uses more fuel. i said no way, but mike insisted that fuel was added relative to rpm (mike, correct me if i quoted you wrong on that). needless to say i didnt downshift much to avoid getting yelled at

my understanding has always been that fuel is added based on throttle position, not rpm. as an example, if fuel were added based on rpm, an engine couldnt function, because as soon as you were to open the throttle, the fuel mixture would instantly go lean and the engine would die. also, by that logic, a civic SI, for example, would get horrendously bad highway gas milage because it sits at about 4500 rpm at a decent cruise.

please correct me if i'm wrong but im almost positive fuel is added to the engine based on increasing throttle position, not rpm. if this is the case, than if im going up a hill, and i have to use alot of throttle to keep the engine from bogging, than that is less efficient than downshifting to a higher rpm (which is better placed in the powerband) which would use less fuel since my engine makes more power at higher rpm, necessitating less throttle to achieve the same speed. everyone with me?

Quote:Our next project will be bigger and MUCH more powerful! Forget 800HP (i.e. Formula 1 car) our car has 1600HP AS STANDARD with more in reserve! And yes, for the insane, it has a PASSENGER SEAT!!

The progress so far.

The engine (from a French helicopter) has been purchased, as has a car, which will be used for research and development. As we donÔÇÖt have any sponsorship, our combined funds have now run out and further progress is being seriously hampered.

With a relatively small amount of financial help we would be able to complete the project in the Millennium year. Fancy the ride of your life?! Contact us if you can help.

  PTG tour
Posted by: Hunter - 02-25-2004, 06:05 PM - Forum: Events - Replies (15)

Ladies and gentlemen... We're going to tour PTG.

What we dont have is a date, so were going to have a poll to see what everyone pefers. This will just give us the dates that we prefer, and we can hope that PTG can do this on the dates that are easy for us. Just a reminder, the tour will be open to MM members, so you'll have to actually pay your dues if you want to come. SO here are the dates...

March 20th or 21st - Weekend after spring break, I know Boobies cant make it and I'd like him to be able to go.

March 27th or 28th- good weekend, its the Mazda drivers JPDE at VIR north, but I dont know how many people here were planning to attend that.

April 10 or 11 - the tar hell SCCA HPDE is this weekend, but I dont know where it is (some one tell me) its not an event we ever have many people go to.

April 25th- its the weekend that we have the rain date for the car show (24th) so we would probably do it on the 25th
