GripFest 2012 - NCCAR

Kind of sounds stunnerish, but for $150 not too bad at a track that isn't too far away + new to me.

I'm on the fence, but I'd be more inclined to go if some MM'ers are down to go as well.

Despite the stupid name, it actually sounds pretty fun. After doing the VIR circuitcross, I'd be down for it, but I think I've got some other events that come first in importance Sad

There is tons of run off room. Good facilities too. Definitely worth going to at least once, hope you have an oil pan baffle and dont have problems with fuel starvation as those LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNGGG corners are high G loads for extended periods of time.

Looks like a badass course.

I don't think I'd be going fast enough in the Corolla to have any issues if I go. Horrible driver plus no grip doesn't really provide much G-force in the corners. Smile

May have to run this by the girlfriend, but it looks like I will be doing a hyperdrive at Hyperfest and July VIR, plus an autocross at VMP in July, so my options may be limited...

stock fwd car with heavy rollover? The coures would be miserable as you would be burning (and probably shred through) your front tires.

Yeah, pretty much. That's pretty much my life right now while trying to do anything in my car. Hell, it's probably a good thing it rained at VIR, or I'd have kiled my tires again at the circuitcross. The wet conditions just made me slow down to where it wasn't much of an issue.

I was saying specifically for this course. At VIR or Summit it wouldnt nearly burn them up as bad.

I know. I'm saying to myself that it would be fun, but I wouldn't make it out to this event anyway. I can only imagine on a more open course how bad my wheelspin would be if I couldn't get through the spiral on Patriot without spinning at 1/4 throttle.

I'm just itching to get some more track time in. GFCP owns me now.

No one else interested? Jake, Maeng?

NTIman -- maybe join the karting league at SPK (I feel like you are pretty close). I think that would be a good way to get some hits from the GFCP before you and Rex pick up a car.

That would probably be a good plan. Never thought about that. Thanks for the suggestion!

I did this event last year. It was well organized and went smoothly. There were about 50 cars, two heats of about 5 runs each. Since it's one lap at a time, you can go out in street gear (tires, brakes) and not have to worry about overdriving them or the consumables factor. And you don't have to work, which is nice.

My only beef was that they made a minor change to the course halfway through the day. A couple people went through the cones in the chicane they had set up on the straight and so they adjusted it. Not only does that make it impossible to compare times, but it just made people carry more speed into the front straight, where a few cars went off instead of hitting cones.

I'll be back again this year if my schedule allows it.

And yeah there is one big 270 degree sweeper that gives you plenty of time to think about what you want for lunch.
