Ehhh...I'd say that if you're trying to make a track car, any ol' $500 E30 that runs may not be the best bet. Take your time and make sure you get something that isn't hanging on by a thread mechanically and you'll have a much better experience.
There's an appeal to getting a dirt cheap car to run on track that you don't care about crashing. But be careful about what you get into. Fixing broken shit at the track (or while you're stranded on the side of the road) will quickly negate any advantage in money you saved. Plenty of us have gone the busted pile route, and few have come out on the other side without experiencing a good deal of misery.

The trick to a $500 track car is buying one that's $500 for the right reasons. Someone left a baby tiger in the interior and completely shredded it? Good stuff. 350k miles of DD usage, not so much.
I was fortunate enough to stumble across my miata and it's still going to take a shit ton of money (relative to my budget anyway) to go through it and trackify it. However, at 56k, I won't have to get into the motor to get TrackRat v1.0 on track, I can save it when I'm ready for some sort of FI.

Yeah, and after we drove 3 hours to get it in an 86 F250 with a car dolly, pushed it out of a field which I believe it had sunken into, rolled it down a hill, impaled the ground with a flailing driveshaft, tied that up, towed it a few miles, took out the driveshaft and then 3 hours back, it wasn't worth it.
Also, It had no engine or transmission.

Exactly and the last car i had lined up had left the sunroof open so it was shit, but he included a new interior anyway. and it had no rust... i shouldn't have waited so long haha. Hopefully i can find another one. One of my friends dad (todd brown if any of you track guys know him (he drives a e30 race car)

anyway he has been discouraging me away from the idea because he said i won't have the finances. I disagree but agree at the same time. So I'm now on the fence about what to do

Sure, it was a shit eta engine, and it didn't run, and everything else he said was 100% true. But still, it did in fact have an engine.

BMW and M BMW are barely the same make of car man. There are BMW's and then there are M's especially back in the e30 game. Makes the e30 way more bawlin and way more expensive to find and pick one up.

Oh - I was thinking of some blue one that somebody bought and just basically sea-foamed and it started up and was flipped a short while later

My bad, it has been a while. Nevertheless, at the time of purchase, the engine and transmission did absolutely no good, because the driveshaft was not attached to it.
Going to get cars with Rex is always a cool adventure. Think of it as a being a cross between MacGyver, Seal Team 6, a mechanic, a tow truck driver, and a firefighter. And sometimes also a lawyer, which actually happens a few weeks later at a time determined by the court, and which I was never actually involved with.

That was a fluke, where are you finding these photos lol!
The problem was easily remedied, and no lives were lost. A busted e30 is what you make of it, but be prepared to drop cash and time into it. I wont tell you how long I've had mine, I've almost lost track :dunno:
Though I will tell you one thing, it's still just as fun as when I first bought it!
