Wow decent referral bonus. Too bad im freaking TM1 Cognos dev "qualified" after 3 weeks of training, but that is such a waste,its one of the worst systems known to man. Been dying for us to move to Sharepoint.

sharepoint dev isnt bad. coding custom portlets (or whatever MS calls them) is pretty straightforward, you're just dealing with the sharepoint API.

now Sharepoint configuration and setup isnt a lot of fun (especially running their abortion of an enterprise search engine) but that kind of IT work always makes me want to stab myself in the eye, and its still usually a lot better polished than most enterprise software.

Developing web parts for Sharepoint isn't too tricky, except for that fact that you can't use design view (WYSIWYG) in Visual Studio. Doing most of the out of the box Sharepoint isn't bad either, but you've got to know what you're doing. Usually the big thing that fucks up Sharepoint portals is when access rights are not set correctly and you have inmates (users) running the asylum. That's usually how you end up with really effed up Sharepoint sites.

Unfortunately the program that you use to edit layouts of master pages and workflows is Sharepoint Designer, which evolved from Frontpage. That is probably the most frustrating part of working with Sharepoint.

All in all it's not a bad gig doing Sharepoint stuff, but it's largely dependent on how well the project is run. If you have a project with bad requirements or are tasked with unfucking a messed up install it can be hell.
