Tire choice advice
#1
I need to get replacement tires for my MSP because I have to get VA plates and the tires won't pass inspection. I am going to be buying a second set of wheels and tires strictly for auto-x, but i am unsure what tires to get for everyday driving. I just recently moved up to Fairfax and i don't think i need to worry too much about snow, but i don't know if i should look to some high performance all seasons.

Has anyone had any luck with any high performance all seasons. I was reading the reviews on tire rack and there isn't one tire that jumps out at me. i am trying to keep the cost down to around the 100 dollar range. They will be 17 inch tires.

Any opinions greatly appreciated.

I bought BFGoodrich Traction T/A's for the Golf. Good grip, haven't been hydroplaning nearly as much as before with my bald Goodyears... Maybe something to consider.

Not sure if they make them in the correct size, but Bridgestone potenza RE950's make a pretty nice all season tire.

i'm with john. i talked my roomate in to getting the traction t/a's and damn those thinks are pretty nice. if i had daily driver wheels those are what i'd be running.

i'll be honest. we didn't know a thing about them when we ordered them as they were a pretty new tire, but he is very very pleased with them.

fwiw - we get about as much snow up here as we do in the burg.

Thanks for the info. the traction t/a's come in 215/50 - 17, which is just slightly higher profile - so it shouldn't be a big deal at all. They are $111, which isn't too bad. How many miles have you put on yours so far? any idea on how quickly they will wear?

Got maybe 300 miles on mine so far. Still have a few of the little rubber bristles on 'em Smile So no, no idea on how they'll wear. I'll look closely when I get home today and see if I can make any predictions though. Treadwear rating is pretty good iirc, and the price was pretty damn good for my little 14" wheels. $54 each I think 8)

ps- Don't be too jealous, I get screwed by the 275/65/R17's for the truck Confusedhock:

I 2nd that. Damn good tires. One of the best, if not _the_ best allseason tire you can get. The only snow rated tires that I wouldnt mind taking on a racetrack.

We do get one or 2 good snows a year, so M+S rating is needed.

VA still has not wised up to the fact that we get snow, in the 22 years I have lived here.
