A year or two ago I posted regarding a lifetime rider who was hit by a car at an intersection and is now paralyzed. Worst part is his kids and wife (the bitch has since left him... texas-bred &*$#*&^$*#) were at the intersection behind him and saw the whole thing.
Just this past week another older guy I know was cruising with a group of friends and his wife, someone pulled a u-turn into their group, and now he's dead.
I'd say "stay safe," but it's out of your hands... Soooo uhhh "good luck."
Anybody want to buy a nearly-ready-to-go VFR750F? $1000. Not running, but carbs are off and clean... just waiting to be put back together. Could use a stay or two that I bent back into shape, some fasteners, and a battery and it'll be as good as new. I think it only has 8k miles? Motor isn't even broken in I was selling anyway, but I have a move coming up and I'd rather not deal with it so will let it go at a serious loss when it just needs a couple hours and some cheap parts.

I'm not sure a flame suit is needed, because the bait isn't very good. It's sad, but we understand the risks. I'm guessing he loved every second of his lifetime of riding and may not have traded it, even knowing the circumstances. It's certainly better than rotting in a hospital bed. You make your choice and we'll make ours.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
Knowing this crowd, I expect flames not because I baited them, but because I'm "soft."
I value my friends (yes, I consider some of you friends!) so anything I can do to get them to statistically live longer, I'll do it

Why haven't you posted about every time you heard of a racer dying on track then?

Fwiw, I don't ride on the street anymore at all. I'd rather take my chances on track.
Although, if that was a 5th-gen VFR, I'd seriously reconsider 8)

Edit - sucks for the guy, but what are you going to do... live in a little box? I think everyone has their time. Could be driving down the road and a piano falls on your roof too.

It's all a game of risk, but some things are far riskier/more likely to happen than others.

i do agree with mikey about limiting the risk factor. it's a careful balance between risk and reward. i'm another one for living it up though: carpe diem. i hope he left his family support in the event of his absence.

Or top gear... I thought that only happens if you're driving a Morris Marina.
You're serious about letting it go for a $1000? If so I have a friend that is interested and if he is not I maybe pick it up for a little summer project.

while i'm sorry to hear about your friend... these things do happen. My father rides every day. If they plow the snow off the road, he'll be out there the next day. I grew up with him riding like this. He's been hit by a ford explorer AND had a stroke while riding... he still rides every single day he can.
Growing up, i had to ride with my dad. 2 years of being in formation with him. I rode as often as i could.... it stuck... its in my blood. I wont stop riding. Even after my wreck I wanted to get back on a bike. yes you have to pay more attention, you almost have to predict whats ahead of you. Some of its skill, some of its luck... but if you love to do it, none of that matters, you just ride because its what you love to do.
that being said, i am cautious over blind hills and i dont generally travel when the school buses are out i learned a lesson.
