318ti time

This is all I got so far:

Just picked it up yesterday, it seems to be in quite good shape. I like it cause it's quite a bit nicer and more up to date than an E30, but it's E30 suspension and engine all the way. Van and bike to be sold ASAP so I can do some NASA events next year, maybe be an instructor if they'll have me. The goal is a trackable, low maintenance car that can still pull DD/toddler duty, and even Jess could drive without complaint. So it's not getting a cage or anything serious.

To do list:

Seats suck. I'll likely get some sport seats from another 3 series unless I can find something more serious that is still adjustable without being too costly.

Suspension doesn't seem too worn out, so maybe bushings can wait, but I'll probably start with some H&R/bilsteins. Zero creativity points here. Nothing special with the brakes either, just pads.

I'll get another set of wheels and track tires for cheap off another E36 or E46.

IF I get a raise and find myself with another ~$3k burning a hole in my pocket a year from now, I'll do something to the engine.
Turning it in to a 325, 328ti is tempting and high bang for the buck, but way more work than I want to do with tools I don't have. Would need a lot of lift time and I don't have one.
Supercharger breaks the budget, boost isn't my cup of tea, and I'm not sure what else it'd need for track use (heat issues?), but at least it'd be less work.
I think I'd go with a Metric Mechanic head with cams, windage tray/crank scraper, exhaust and ECU, and crank bearings when it got tired of 7k RPMs. Least power, (maybe 175ish) but it should be reliable and not much work. I should be able to keep up with some 6cyl cars at least. :dunno:

Ed, wherever you are out there, this one's for you

A G so appropateily put it once, "Hey! It's 3/4 of a BMW!"

Just kidding. Looks like a great car Chan! Looking forward to seeing you at the track again!

Oh, and I imagine that a few of us could get together and swap your engine in a weekend.

Awesome! If i remember correctly, you have been wanting one of these for a long time; great to see you getting to follow through.

+1 on getting the engine swap done in a weekend. Just a matter of having it all sitting next to the car and ready to go in.

I have a set of black 325is sport seats. They're more supportive than the m3 seats.

Let me if your looking for seats out of a 325is or 325i sedan or hell anything.

I find a million e36 325is in the pick and pull junkyard with some of them having MINT condition interiors. There was a 325is this weekend with a tan interior that looked like he had replaced the front and rear seats like a month before the crash, looked straight from the factory.

Cool, looks like a great car to play with. The ti's are quirky and weird and I like them for that. Looking forward to see what direction this takes!

Is that Montreal Blue? I like the Blurple, one of my high school friends owns a 325is in the same color. Looks great when it's cleaned up all purdy.

ha, nice! Sorry I wasn't able to help out on Sunday. I'm looking forward to some chananigans at the track this season though. Any plans for a roll bar? I'm guessing no if its on toddler duty but its still something you should consider if you can make it work.

Nice find Smile There was a skinny asian guy named Gary Lin who used to come to all of the Subaru meets back in the day. He did own some kind of Subaru but he also had a 318 with a full M3 swap iirc. That would be my candidate for moar power Tongue

Nice, the exact criteria I had and ended up with a leather interior (easy clean up) Integra. I do wish I found a four door, two doors and baby seats can be a pain but, tolerable.

I have a little bit of a rub near lock but if you are turned to lock on a track there are other problems already...

I just thought of this, this past weekend I picked up a Z3 shifter from the junkyard for 16 bucks, if you want it. Considered a short shifter for your car.
