Calhoun's was pretty much the only decent restaurant in that area from what I remember. I'd assume they've built something better than that since then though.

I've got to throw another vote in for the joshua wilton house, although I don't know if you could get a valentines day reservation on such short notice.

You could also check out the staunton area, its only 20 minutes away and they might a have a nice place downtown. (although I have no idea)

+1 on Staunton, I didn't think of that. I remember going down to try to see a play with one of my ex's. I bet you could find a decent spot down there.

Joshua Wilston House is pretty overplayed, the last couple I knew that went dropped about $120 and were not impressed at all. The two nicest with proper chefs are Downtown 56 and Clementine's. Clementine's is a lot like Cally's but with better food and worse beer.

Blue Nile is liked by hipsters and has god awful food. Taste of Thai is exceptional if your lady is into Thai cuisine.

Staunton has Zenandoah which is an overpriced piece of shit with poor service and awful food. They have good restaurants, but not really Vday appropriate if you're trying to impress. The only one I could recommend is http://www.millstreetgrill.com/ which is known for ribs and steak, so if your lady is into MEAT this is a fantastic place.

Overall I would say Downtown 56, just checked out their web site and it is $50 per person for Vday which includes a 4 course meal and champagne.

I took Jessica here a few times: http://www.mytravelguide.com/restaurant ... Ranch.html

It's not nice, but it's cozy, fun, and different from what everyone else will be doing. I value that more than a bling wine menu and fancy attire when I'm on a college budget. If your girl doesn't as well, find a new one.

The Depot Grille in Staunton is also quite good. Ate some of the best ribs I've ever had there.
Everything else I'd name is already in this thread.

I had heard about Downtown 56 before, but not sense I've been back to the burg. I may have to give that a try sometime.

I thought I'd throw in another out of town option that I think is fantastic. The Bavarian Chef is about 50 minutes from the burg, and makes amazing german food. Everything is very, very heavy, including the beers, and pretty much everything is cooked in alcohol of some kind.

FYI: Do not take a vegetarian there.
