Another Oil test...

One of the many tests that has kept me using Royal Purple instead of mobil 1.

alot of good stuff has been said about RP racing oils, but their energy conserving stuff (everyday synth you buy on the shelf) is not really anything amazing, especially for the price.

mobil is not what they used to be.

I noticed an instant 3-4mpg increase in fuel efficiency by switching to RP engine and gear oil. I would have kept it in my tranny except that it's apparently too slippery for it. Could be the butt dyno too, but the car feels not nearly as smooth or responsive since I tried Mobile 1 again for my last oil change. I've got a case of RP waiting to go in for the next one.

Yeah, I thought the tests were questionable too, but I didnt care enough to dig too far into it. M1 is good stuff, regardless of what the internets knowitalls say.

really 3-4? That seems like a super high increase from oil alone. what did you have in there before? anyone else see something like this or even think its possible?

If it is really true i am switching today. at 3.75 a gal its well worth it

I shit you not, I noticed it right away at least on my Lexus. I had always used M1. I pulled a steady 27.8mpg on the way back from the beach with one passenger and my car full of beach crap. Best highway mileage I've gotten since the switch back to M1 was 24

i'll agree to that. when i drove across the country i got 36mpg at one point through West Virginia and i got 24mpg crossing Kansas (head-wind the whole way) - same car, same speeds, same oil, same grade of gas, same load, and all highway.

the only difference was how much was left in the tank (36mpg i filled up after only a little passed half-way, whereas 24mpg was filled up at near-empty)

Not to mention that all gas station pumps are calibrated to shut off the same time. That extra .5 or 1.0 gallon can make a significant impact on your mpg calculations.

And I'm pretty sure he still owes me for all that 100 octane I put in his piece at Summit (feel free to pay me back in parts + timing belt services.)

you mean by filling up only halfway you have to stop twice as often for gas? negating (and maybe even reversing) any savings the lower weight may have made? brilliant!

But you go faster, so you burn fuel for a shorter period of time. That means less gas from A to B.

wtf? lol I forgot to put the gasket on the fuel tank when I did my fuel pump so I ran around for a few weeks with putting only a 1/2 tank in everytime. Got used to it. However I do put full fuel into it when I go somewhere. Except lets say from NOVA to harrisonburg. Fill up enough to go to harrisonburg where gasoline is 30 cents cheaper per gallon.

Around town I would do a 1/4 to 1/2 tank of gas per week, so thats what I would do. It has nothing to do with getting gas mileage, trying any benefit of weight savings for gas mileage would result in MAYBE A 50 cent difference on fill up. Fuck that, thats a waste of my time.
