AMA Daytona 200 & ALMS 12 Hours of Sebring
#1
I'm probably going to be heading down to Florida to cover both events this year and was wondering if anyone else is interested in checking either event out.

Daytona (March 5 - 8 )
Daytona Bike week is a big weekend for motorcyclists and associated jackassery but its also the season opener for the AMA Superbike championship as well as AMA Flat Track. There's a round of AMA Supercross over the weekend as well. For those on spring break you can hang at Daytona Beach (or down at Miami) during the week and check out the racing on the last 3 or 4 days. I'm thinking I'll be flying out on that Wednesday night and coming back on Sunday.

12 Hours of Sebring (March 13 - 15)
The 12 Hours of Sebring is the season opener for the American Le Mans championship and is one of the biggest endurance races in the world. Many international teams use it to gauge what they will need to do for the 24 at Le Mans. It has definitely got its own peculiar flavor and is a pretty fun event to watch. You probably won't see more bling racecars at any other event in North America. It would also be a good place to network if you want to try to crew for someone.

If anyone wants to go we can probably split the hotel room, and I'll have a car down there one way or another (depends on whether my editor comes). Flights for both weekends are still pretty damned cheap, under $200 for Daytona, and about $220-$260 for Sebring. I thought about driving but I'd end up spending about the same amount of money on gas anyway and waste 24 hours of my time. Maybe if 3 or more people wanted to drive I'd be willing to drive though.

All right, I think I'm just going to do Daytona this year rather than both. I bought my ticket down to Whorelando ($189 on Jet Blue) and got the car rental reserved, just have to select ze hotel. Looks like I'll be able to score something decent for under $50/night.

Oh, for those with M licenses it looks like a couple of the moto manufacturers are going to have demo rides at Daytona. So far the two confirmed ones are Harley/Buell and Suzuki but I'm sure there'll be others out there. I think I'll use the opportunity to do a top speed run on the beach on a Busa, World's Fastest Indian style...
