Do people assume you are big baller loaded status because you have several motorcycles? Of course, anyone thats seen the state my bikes are in knows otherwise, but this has come up twice recently.

When our just moved in roomate came home one night, I was in the garage with the door open and she asked if all the bikes were mine - all of them except for Gerald's belong to me and she asked "wow, are you rich or something?"

Today, one of my coworkers was asking me about it, and I mentioned I had a few bikes and he commented "wow, Kronos must be paying you the big money then" Of course, more

I just dont get it - are people just stupid? Its not like I have 4 ducatis chilling in my living room or drive a brand new lexus or something. I could walk down the street to Coleman and buy a new Ducati but thats not the point...

Is this really a problem? Is it a bad thing for people (especially a girl) to assume you're a baller? I'd say just go with it, nod and move on...

Its not a problem, perhaps more of a frustration because I try to be modest about most things, even if I have a habit of [Image: rj.gif] with my vehicles sometimes (ok, a lot of the time).

Most people figure owning more than one of a luxury item means you have a lot of disposable income and generally speaking... they're right. Many people don't have the means or priorities to spend thousands on what is essentially a hobby so your situation seems privileged to them.

But why is there the need to even say anything at all? Because most people dont own a motorcycle? My bike is just how I get around 10 months out of the year. If I said I went out and bought a $1500 LCD TV on black friday like the rest of america then no one would say "man, you're fuckin loaded!"

I'm single, I rent, and I have disposable income - so what?

If I wanted to buy $5000 in idiot boxes instead of a $5000 bike, who cares? I guess I've never made that assumption about anyone... either rich or poor.

Why does it bother you? Don't like being lumped in with "the rich" or something?

Ever think that maybe you qualify? I mean "rich" is subjective and based on their standard of living, perhaps making what you do and being able to spend it how you like means you're privileged.

I visited some friends in Philly this weekend and I got called rich in jest. I wouldn't consider myself as that so I asked what he was talking about. He said "well you have a lot more money than I do" and that made me realize that I'm far 'better off' than most people I went to school with. That's more a function of the area I live in than anything but it doesn't change their perspective of my financial situation.

Having disposable income to spend as you wish isn't a bad thing. Just say "I do alright" and take it as a compliment. If they know you then they'll know you're modest about it and it won't matter. If they don't and somehow hold it against you then screw them.

I'm sure I qualify given my tax bracket (although my take home is t3h suck in a big way in relative comparison) but the people that have made the commentary probably make more $$ than I do - which adds to my confusion of why make the assumption and say anything at all.

Well the assumption is that you have a similar set of priorities as them. I guess you can fault them for that but look at it as an opportunity to broaden their view of what's important to others.

let people think what they will. you spend your money as you see fit and most people (i believe) don't really understand how inexpensive a motorcycle can me (initial purchase, not everything else related..gear, insurance, etc.)

you have your priorities with vehicles as almost everyone here can relate with b/c we're in the same boat. you probably don't make chump change and you probably live modestly with other means, but you like your vehicles and you have disposable income...nothing wrong with that - some people spend thousands of dollars on other things that i would consider stupid, like flowers, books, hookers, or uber expensive clothes. you can't control others' assumptions so why try and appease them? f-'em

ive gotten some of those comments about my miata! i say que le fuck? i paid $6k for this car.
i think it comes down to what derecola said. people assume if you buy stuff that is impractical or a luxury item then you have money to burn. never mind that i rent a room for cheap, dont have a tv, stingier than a jew etc.

i think alot of people honestly have no idea what a motorcycle costs and assume they start alot higher.

everybody knows about the cost of the latest TV because everyone has one. same with alot of other domestic luxury items. but bikes are kind of exotic to a "normie"

most people do not know about your hobbies, and that you buy the oldest stuff possible. we all know you are UNballer. When a girl hears a motorcycle, most think expensive right off the bat. shoot, most girls would think you are rich if you drive a 318ti or an m3, a BMW is a BMW right?

but chris is right, being able to purchase toys like this in cash, and have multiple, makes you well off. Different strokes for different folks. Not many know that one of those bikes costs as much as the tv on their wall. Kronos must be paying you the big bucks though Tongue
