ok, compression not an issue. we got rid of the smoke. we put in this engine block sealer stuff and let it run for a total of about an hour with breaks and i think whatever was smoking was probably just something left in the muffler from when there was a problem. and i did all the tests for the brake booster. and that seemed to have checked out, plus there was no more smoke, so it couldn't be brake fluid burning, however, whoever mentioned that it was a good idea. now, i'm going to replace all the vacuum lines, because there is an idle problem. i timed the car with a timing gun and it was in the right position so i'm thinking that now there is just a vacuum line somewhere leaking air and so i'm not getting the proper idle. if i can get this thing to idle by tomorrow, i'm keeping it instead of selling it.
