jack is just butthurt that the dems will taste some of their own filibuster medicine
or thats how i read it anyway.
apparently they were voting to require the issue be brought up in a certain amount of time... but to do that it requires a 3/5ths majority which they do not have.
they want to bring up the issue with the Gitmo prisoners.
unfortunately they can vote to give them "back" rights... that they might not truely be entiled to under the law.
Currently the way the law is being read you must be a ranked member of an organized army to recieve these rights and qualify for Geneva Convention protection. All of the Iraqi army members get these rights. Insergents arent afforded those rights.
as much as our fore fathers loved being a revolution and wanted to afford people certain rights to over through our own government if it were to get out of hand... they also laced in some underhanded things to crush rebellions if they were to happen.

Motion to Invoke Cloture on the Specter Amdt. No. 2022
Specter (who voted to invoke Cloture... it so happens) propposed Amdt. No. 2022. It suspends the "rights" of the detained prisoners... they are attempting to restore habeas corpus.

It was the vote on whether to reinstate Habeas Corpus for foreigners. So if you are detained, are not a US citizen or legal immigrant, you do not have the right to trial. It has no bearing on US citizens although the argument can be made that Habeas Corpus in the Constitution was meant to apply to "everyone" not just "citizens".

From what I understand, it's basically a vote to block a filibuster on the issue of habeas corpus on american soil. It failed. There were a few repubs that voted yea, but most were nay. I just don't really understand. If we take them to US soil, shouldn't they be allowed to defend themselves? What if they are one of the numerous people who have been wrongfully imprisoned?

Outside of 31 flavors?
When it comes to Ryan Jenkins, the story ends with me putting him in the wall.

funny how you didnt have any problem with filibusters back when the dems were blocking the Presidents constitutional right to appoint judges
im trying not to get sucked into this, as its clearly an issue chock full of agenda so everyone is trying to manipulate the issue, but suffice to say that it is not an issue simply of any furriner not getting habeas corpus, the root issue is enemy combatants having rights to sue our government. POWs have never, and should never, have rights to sue the country they are fighting against.
If I'm not mistaken this vote, or atleast another vote that happened today, would have restored U.S. citizens right to habeas corpus as well.
It was voted down. The Constitution is officially worth less than the paper it's written on.

But has been for legal travelers inside the US... I'm not stating 100%... I'm pseudo asking... haha

Well, if Habeas Corpus had been suspended for US Citizens (Gonzales' ridiculous opinions on the matter aside) then I'd agree with you. But it wasn't.
Now, I believe that every human being has certain unalienable rights, one of which is habeas corpus. The fact that we are denying this right to detainees (turrurrists) seems to say to me that we're no better than they are. The US should be taking the moral high ground in these matters, but we don't.
That said, I don't think the constitution guarantees jack shit for non US citizens.
